Ok. Herrera is a keeper.

Good morning.

The reset was designed to see who could perform and also fatigue and stamina issues.

Herrera has passed both tests. He’s hot late. Shows endurance.

374 at bats- .283-19 hr-2/1 K to walk. 2.3 war.

Putting him behind the plate will only diminish his hitting and the teams runner stopping abilities.

He needs to replace Willy, or if he has a catchers arm, play left.

Now- so far in reset these have performed- Winn, Donovan, Herrera, Willy, McG, Libby. Gray. They can stay.

The remaining group are up for auction.

Enjoy.

Herrera is still a question mark to me as a keeper. It concerns me about any player not able to adequately play a defensive position. Don’t expect gold glove but adequate. Not sure about outfield. Also question arm strength. He’s a catcher that can’t throw out runners. I know there is more involved than just arm strength but it is a question mark.

DH? Yes but I still want adequate defense for every roster position. Just my opinion.

Good take. Rumor is he wants to catch. I think that’s not good. If he is able to catch, he should be able to throw from left field to second or third adequately.

He’s our only power hitter. Not enough to carry a team but enough to contribute greatly. I fear a wear down as a catcher, thus more injuries.

Our 3 best hitters are defensively limited. If we could stash one of the 3 at catcher, it would be a big plus to our offense obviously, so hopefully Herrera takes this winter to come to spring with a passable arm. Would be big for 2026 and open up possibilities huge for 2027 to acquire 1 or 2 hitters for the outfield to round out our offense.

Regardless obviously the pitching is really the problem to solve in 2026 if we want to have a chance to compete in 2027. Hopefully we can get some advancement on a solid season from Matthew and atleast one suprise starter transitions to an upper tier arm from the minor leagues.

The DH is a position. American League teams have a player that plays that position all the time. Why not us. Gorman can't hit enough. Burleson can play outfield or first. Contreras can play first. Let Herrera play DH

I think him not catching has helped him with his endurance this season. A big part of that would be limited injuries. Your point is good. He needs to hit, thus he needs to play. DH seems to satisfy both health and stamina issues.

I'd have like to have seen him more in left. Nothing against the man, but if Greg Luzinski could play left...I would think Herrera could. Of course as mentioned above, DH is a position.

Hererra is a DH. If he is the only player on the team who can only hit and can't field a position then he is a keeper. Meanwhile Contreras is a poor defensive first baseman. 9 errors. 1 behind Alonso and Wagaman for most at the position.

Contreras should be the DH but Hererra is so bad defensively that get the DH spot. Cardinals are in need of an instructor who can teach the game.

1. He is a keeper.
2. If he can play replacement-level defense at catcher, then he needs to be at catcher. His offense at the catcher position is All-Star worthy and would greatly deepen the lineup.

Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. Well, more accurately it was told to leave the port.

This winter, I hope he works out at catcher....and left field.

8 homeruns in September by Herrera.
YES, he is a keeper. This guy can flat out hit and has excellent power. Now the debate can begin as to where to play him but only a fool would not want a player in your lineup that can hit 8 homeruns in one month ..20 HR plus ability for a season

+1 I don’t know why people are obsessed with everyone having to play a position. If you have Burly in right and Herrera in left your outfield defense is going to suck badly. Just park him at DH and let him hit. I would rather a guy just DH and have a better fielding outfielder than put an average or below average guy in the field just so you can say he has a position for some reason

Why is it a forgone conclusion Burly is in RF?

Without a doubt the breakout player on the runway this season.

He's the teams best hitter and only threat in the organization to hit 30-35 HR's.

Just DON'T waste him in the #2 hole next season. ::crazya::

He hits #3 w/WillyC behind him if he's still here.
