Team baserunning is abysmal

They make so many stupid mistakes, I get that 3/4 of team is old, fat or just plain slow, but this has cost the team at least 5 wins this year with poor base running and coaching too

I’ve never seen a third base coach hold up as many runners at third on a base hit to outfield. Other teams score with ease regardless of runners speed

Walker could have scored on Donovan’s basehit tonight and the game never goes to extra innings

I hope some of the lard is trimmed off this team

The team needs more than trimming. Pops Warner at 3rd base is the poster child for Cardinals baserunning . After getting burned a couple times early in the year sending guys, he went into a shell and holds up guys more than the bank robbers at Wells Fargo.

Walker had a 10 foot lead off 2B,didn't take a secondary, on contact took about 2 steps toward 3rd then a step back to second, until it went through, before finally going to third.

Yes he should have scored, IMO. Yes it is abysmal.

Beyond base running, every single hit they got tonight was a single. That results in a lot of station to station baseball with a slow team. There is so little slug on this team.

But fundamentals are a major weakness now. And it bit them again tonight with Nootbaar's bonehead base running in the 10th. Herrera likely cost them a game recently with 2 base running gaffes in 1 extra inning.

Is this another "fire Marmol" thread? If so, it's the most convincing one. We make far too many mistakes, don't score runs we should score, and don't steal hardly any bags. The team in not slow, so this could likely be fixed with better leadership, IMO.

Where the hardcore fans yelling Noot after that knucklehead base running?

Well stated, fellow TX Cards fan. I’ve been saying they should fire Marmol for the last couple of years.

Greetings from San Antonio!

It's almost like they hired Matt Carpenter as baserunning coach.

Found this quite interesting .. I was watching the Cards fans on St. Louis FanDuel while simultaneously recording Wis.FanDuel feed.
Brewers announcer Brian Anderson was all excited when Monasterio at 1st nailed Noot at 3rd citing great double play and replaying the accurate hard throw to 3rd base ( Monasterio is SS filling in at 1st ) No mention of poor judgment by Noot .

Yet Caray mentioned 'Noot running us out of the inning' St. Louis newspaper writer headline about base runniing blunder and CT certainly chiming in

Interesting how one side views a play like that vs. another. Pretty obvious to me that Noot needed to retreat to 2nd base.

Correct on every point.
Fundamentally, a terrible team at the plate, on the bases, in the field.
That is 100% on the failed manager.

Reflects poorly on both Oli and his staff.

It would have helped if they had a couple of "unicorns" on the team like at second base.

Don't you think playing 2 guys at 2nd base would make the issue ever worse?
That would be a strange defensive alignment.....

Do not agree with the statement that 'this team is not slow '

Yes, I would agree that Oli could try to attempt more steals but let's take the production of some of these guys when they do attempt to steal .

First, Scott our one true threat .. 33 swipes ..only caught 3 times Great !

Now for the others Winn 9 SB caught Stealing (CS) 5 times ..so that isn't real great

Nootbaar 4 SB ..caught 5 times ... if you were Oli , why would yu be having him try to steal .. he is getting thrown out over half the attempts ! Bad
Donovan 3 SB .. CS 3 times only 50% .. another guy who no reason to have him try to steal ..

So I can see why with exception of Scott (and maybe Winn) why a manager would not be sending the other guys .. The others are not that successful
Oli may not be sending those guys but you can see what happens when they do attempt to steal ..not much success .

Reading comprehension is no one of you strong points, but really what are some of your strong points?

You need to observe, learn and them make educated posts.
