It’s more than doubtful Bloom wastes his silver bullet and ace up his sleeve on day 1

He’s not firing Oli
Why would he play his get out of jail card on day 1.
The impending lockout is another layer that makes this pretty obvious.
Oli will be the manager in ‘26, on his last year of his contract.
It’s unlikely they do anything special given the forecast to keep cost down going into the lockout. .
If things go exceptionally well and the relationship is strong he’ll get extended by Bloom.
Most likely result is he’s fired after ‘26

Bloom isn’t on a short leash ownership knows the mess he has to clean up that mo left. Bloom may be as dumb as mo and keep oli and do something mo like levels of dumb and extend him so he doesn’t feel pressure any pressure to be good at his job or win. I hope he isn’t that dumb but he could be that dumb we will see

If Bloom retains Oli for 2026, he doesn't need to fire Marmol. In sports, firing usually means releasing the coach with remaining year(s) on his contract. In Oli's case (at end of 2026 ), Bloom would just announce that Oli's contract has expired and the team will not be renewing him for 2027
and beyond.

This might be a silly question but what would it look like trying to find a new manager directly after the 2026 season if there is a lockout? I guess player signing will be frozen but what about managers? Does what's going on between the players and owners impact the ability to find and hire a manager? If so, I'd hate to see them rush a decision on a new manager once the lockout is lifted and everyone is scrambling to get the season started. Or maybe it doesn't matter?

He wouldn't dare deviate from the negative Nellies. We haven't begun to hand out our "stupid moves awards". Only we know what is best for the Cardinals.

We have about 3 "interim" manager possibilities within the system. Yadi, outside the system, wouldn't likely take much convincing.... Don't see a real problem.

Well like I said arenado spoke volumes about oli as a manager

I don’t believe Marmol will be fired, after this season or next year either. I believe he will be reassigned within the organization. Just when that will take place, well none us know, but I suspect he will remain as manager for one more season, so by 2027 he will no longer be the manager, but will be still be with organization.

Others might be on to something with the lockout scenario but if he extends him with the reason being “no pressure to win”…he should be fired immediately just for the PR stupidity.

It’s not really about how long his leash is with ownership.
It’s about flipping energy, perspective, fan momentum and interest.
He will have a big card to play that can swing excitement and interest. I’m not sure using it day 1, especially w a stoppage likely coming, makes much sense.

That makes sense. Thanks.

If his mind is made up he’s not keeping oli it doesn’t make any sense at all to keep him. Bring in your manager so he can start making the team his and getting his finger prints on it now if bloom is building his team he should have his manager in place to help build it

It doesn’t matter. Unless Bloom acquires a couple impact bats and SP’s this team isn’t going anywhere……
Do you expect BDW to spend real money……rinse and repeat next season

This has never been in doubt. Not sure why people here still debate it. Oli is manager next year and has a loooong leash during the season. He only gets fired midseason if things go terribly wrong.

I feel like two scenarios are at play. Neither involves Marmol being here past 2026.
1. Bloom let's him finish his contract knowing that the team in 2026 will be less than stellar due to a lack of contracts coming in during the 2025 off season. 2026 ends he gets another managing job somewhere else or reassigned within the Cards organization. Hard to see how you go from being manager though to being another type in the same organization. Chances are he just becomes some one else's issue. Hard to see this scenario simply because it leaves them without a manager going into and coming out of the lockout. It may be mid season when it starts and that is not the time to be looking for a manager.
or
2. Bloom let's him go at the end of this season to bring in his people with a big statement that year 1 is not a win or die trying scenario because there will be a lack of contracts coming in. Year 1 will be to continue to evaluate and get through the lockout ready to come out on the other side with a plan to start adding quality mixed in with players getting back into game shape. What's left of 2027 and moving into 2028 will be the year we see the lower level prospects touted now as future stars that will get elevated to go along with some notable contracts. Cards get back to a winning mantra.
During all of this they will have revamped coaching staffs in the minors and set in place the mission plan moving forward.
