Move him to first so he can play a full season.

135 games
20 Hrs
80 RBI
44 BB
142 K's
.791 OPS

In my opinion it is time for him to go.

Put him back behind the plate where he is an offensive ++. That would open up 1B for either Burly or Herrera. Let Crooks be the 2026 b/u catcher and Bernal be the Memphis primary in 2026.

The total offense would be better, and the defense would be a wash. Contreras was never a bad defensive catcher. He was overall average. He had some things he was below average on and others he was above average on.

What? I don't understand your post. He is playing a full season. He is playing 1B.
And it's definitely not time for him to go. He's the teams best hitter and a leader.

LOL….if I had a dime for every correct prediction…..
Got a couple more RBI’s out of him, but as I said many times if you expect a 33yr old MLer with a long track record to become something he’s never been……you might be Mo or a poster on CT

He's done catching. There is nothing wrong with his offensive numbers.

Those numbers are better than anyone else on this talent deprived team would’ve put up. And that was with a couple IL stints and a suspension.

He also could easily reach 100RBIs with some actual OBP in front of him other than Donovan.

I’m guessing you’re high on Burleson though. If so, be sure to subtract for his defense too.

his offensive numbers are fine. rbis are a team stat and would be higher if we didnt have such (bleep) in the 1 and 2 hole most the season.

hes an above average hitter among other 1b in the league. is he a top 5 1b in the league or mvp caliber player? no. but hes not the problem. the weak production weve gotten from nootbar(another guy youve been down on forever, you cam claim victory on that) scott walker pages and arenadohas been way more problematic.

if herrera wasnt gonna stick at catcher though, i think it would have been better to keep contreras at catcher

Wasn't the move an attempt to keep him healthy Basil?

But I'm in agreement w/you.

No way he can be any worse than what we saw this season behind the plate where our pitchers reeked.

Get rid of Pages/Pozo.........let WillyC catch 100 games, mentor Crooks and play 1st base when he's not behind the plate vs LHSP.

By the end of his contract one of the younger catchers (Bernal/RR) could be ready.

Just confirmed that’s his season stat line…….same ole Contreras….so these hopes of full season PA with enhanced performance was a dream.

He's a good hitter, but he would be like the 6th best hitter on a championship caliber team.

135 games played will be the second most of his career, with 2018 being his highest at 138 games played.

From that perspective, the move to 1B accomplished what they were hoping to do, get more games out of Willson. He also can’t control being injured by HBPs which did happen this year.

He played very good defense at 1B despite people predicting he would be terrible.

He’s not a problem in my eyes, he’s well respected in the clubhouse, is one of the few players that shows passion for winning, and is a consistently above-average hitter.

Nice straw man, I don’t recall many saying they expected his offense to improve with the positional change, just that they would get more production from more games played.

Reminder of Rock all offseason:

"Herrera should be the starter! Pages is a JAG!"

To refresh your memory, a big reason WC moved to 1B was to make room for Herrera.

Admittedly his move to 1B didn’t unleash some latent offensive production stifled by a catchers mitt
