Springfield AA halmark
Our AA team had one helluva season. 88 wins is by far the most ever for a Cardinal AA. On Tuesday they begin the postseason in Tulsa in a best of 3. Here's hoping they run the table and win the minor league playoff. They have earned it.

Patrick Anderson
Springfield Cardinals Manager
After three seasons as manager of the Peoria Chiefs (A+), Anderson became the eighth-ever manager in Springfield Cardinals history in 2025. Anderson, who calls nearby Columbia, MO home, previously spent seven years in the Nationals organization (2013- 19) as manager with the Single-A Hagerstown Suns (2014-19) and Gulf Coast League Nationals (2013). Across ten Minor League managerial seasons, he holds a 661-619 record and a 2013 Gulf Coast League Championship.
Anderson played collegiately at Mars Hill (NC) University and played three years of Independent League Baseball. He brings a wealth of experience to Springfield, as he began coaching in 1996 as an assistant with Gannon (PA) University. He also spent time at Hofstra University as an assistant coach (1999-2001) and head coach (2009-11). In-between his college coaching were coaching positions in the Royals organization in the GCL (2001), Midwest League (2002-06), Pioneer League (2007) and Appalachian League (2008).
Springfield ends the 2025 regular season at 88-50.

and the Ruiner of Pitching Arms in Peoria. Andrew Marrero, Edwin Nunez, Dionys Rodriguez, Inohan Paniagua, Connor Lunn, Logan Gragg, the list is much longer.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑15 Sep 2025 09:37 amPatrick Anderson

He rode his pitchers hard in Peoria and his relievers harder....made them go 3 innings, each outing.
I've never disliked a manager more than I have Patrick Anderson.
Springfield is Jose Leger's legacy anyways....Anderson is using Leger's coaching staff from last year.
We promoted Leger to head Minor League Coordinator (or some sort of title like that)...along with Bernard Gilkey.

Re: Springfield AA halmark
I remember attending a Texas League championship series game several years ago in Frisco. I was at the ticket booth buying my ticket when a nice lady asked me a question about the game/stadium that I couldn't answer. I told her, "I don't know. I'm just here to see Michael Wacha pitch." She looked surprised and said, "Oh! That's great, I'm his mom." Lo and behold, she and he husband ended up sitting next to me during the game behind the Springfield dugout.
But that's not the point of my post. I bring that up because the team playing for the championship probably looks a lot different from the team that won most of those games. At least it did in Wacha's time. The better players got called up to Memphis, while good A-ball performers got called up to Springfield. It's an interesting mix. I hope they win it.

Good for them. That's a better winning % than any MLB team with end with, except MIL maybe.
I wonder if their success comes from true projectable MLB talent or more from career minor leaguers finally playing well together.

Mautz, Hansen, and Henderson keep them in at least 3 games a week. Couple that with an outstanding BP, they're a pretty (bleep) elite team. Getting a hot Levenson and Baez didn't hurt either. Ramon Mendoza hitting well in his 8th year as a pro helped offset poor years by Rivas and Yeager. Mendlinger was his steady self, promoted to Memphis, helped offset the loss of Buchberger at the beginning of the season. Bernal and Wetherholt carried the team in the 1st half.
that's just my amateur assessment.
But truly, that trio of starting pitchers has been nails all season long. The new pitching coordinators did wonders for Mautz and Hansen.

You and I were unhappy the way Anderson chewed up and spit out some pretty decent arms in Peoria last few years...I expect those new pitching coordinators helped avoid that in Springfield this year.craviduce wrote: ↑15 Sep 2025 20:26 pmMautz, Hansen, and Henderson keep them in at least 3 games a week.
