Don't worry, Oli doesn't have the words "steal" or "hit-and-run" in his vocabulary. The guy knows nothing about offensive strategy. People talk about his limitations with the roster but fail to acknowledge when runners get on base he makes no attempt to make things happen. Terrible manager but people on here seem to praise him bec the standards have become so low since MO has been in charge.

Every team in the Majors could say 1/3 of their lineup is slow. What does that have to do with taking offensive chances when your offense sucks (donkey)? How many times has this team scored less than 2 runs in a game? Would it not make sense to do something/anything to generate runs? You have Winn, Scott, Donovan, Nootbar to put in motion with hit and run or straight steal but how many times does that happen. You have 1/3 of the guys who are slow.. . Contreras, Arenado, Burleson. They clog up the base paths. This is not a team with speed. Take Manager Pat Murphy Brewers he can run as he has fast guys up and down the lineup. I can’t fathom Murphy running the Cardinal trio J mentioned above plus Noot is average speed.
If you say every team in the Majors could say 1/3 of their lineup is slow, then it tells me that you are not watching the other teams especially a fast one in our own division.. The Brewers do NOT have 1/3 of their lineup as slow .. no way /no how ... The Cardinals just got finished with the Brewers .. did you watch any of those games ? I'll try to approach this from a different angle since you seem to be fixated with my knowledge of slow/fast runners around the league. Yes, I'd still argue that the average MLB team would say a 1/3 of their runners are below average speed, but of course there are outliers and you probably named the best one in the Brewers, however that has zero to do with my point. The gist of the point I'm trying to make is we have a manager that knows (or should know) the limitations of his offense and does nothing to try to work around it. This isn't the same Cardinals teams of 10-15 years ago with guys that could hit homeruns 1-6 in the order. So what is the answer? To Oli, he'd rather sit back and wait for the team to string together 3 hits to score 1 run, or getting a homerun from his non-homerun hitting personnel. When you're a bad offensive team you have to be creative and aggressive, and Oli is the total opposite of that. Being aggressive on the bases is the only way to keep the defense on their heels and increases the chance of big innings. How many times does Oli have someone bunt or hit and run? I'm sure the excuse will be that no one on the team can bunt or make contact on demand, correct? If that is the case then that should be an indictment on the coaching staff, including Oli. Oli is a terrible in-game manager and if you have watched the games over the last couple of years you should be able to come to that conclusion. Totally agree, Craig. Oily Marmot does absolutely nothing to maximize the team’s abilities.
