and how many real world votes does he lose at seasons end due to:
1. not being available for 150 games
2. posting a sub 100 OPS+
3. playing for a team that draws (well) under 3M fans.
4. not playing in a pennant race or in October.

the gold glove has nothing to do with the things you mentioned. Do you have any understanding of what the "Gold Glove" is?

Right.
I know games played, in general, has to be decent.
And Winn has plenty games played.

theory, meet reality...
Plenty of times growning up the winner was the SS with the highest OPS (Arod, Jeter)_ or who played for the team with the most fans and there was controversy over whether he actually displayed the best fielding performance.

The first one may have some bearing 2,3,4 would be dumb for anyone to factor into who should get a gold glove

Mike Schmidt was an excellent 3rd baseman, however there were seasons where he had over 20 errors and Ken Rietz would have around 5, but would still win the GG! Schmidt would, of course have over 30 home runs and 100 RBI’s, while Rietz would have like 4 HRs and 40 RBI’s.

Also it’s no coincidence Edgar won his first gg the same year he posted an over .800 OPS. He actually had a better fldg % and fewer errors his 2nd year but didn’t get any attention in Florida.

Times have changed. More information is given to the voters now, including advanced metrics. Does a players fame or offense still play a factor? Maybe a little… but not anywhere near the way it did even 20 years ago.

I remembered Rafael Palmeiro won a GG while being DH most of the season. Just looked it up to confirm, was in 1997.

There’s a difference between the voters then and now now they want to show they are up to speed on advanced metrics

That may have been because Schmidt had better range than Reitz and turned more “sure hits” into outs. But yeah, Schmidt’s hitting and East Coast team didn’t hurt his recognition, either.

NL DRS leaders at SS:
M. Betts
+15
N. Allen
+13
D. Swanson
+9
G. Perdomo
+6
O. Lopez
+6
M.Winn
+3 DRS
BUT
NL OAA leaders at SS:
M. Winn
+22 (second only to B. Witt's +23)
N. Allen
+17
T. Turner
+16
J. Ortiz
+12
M. Betts
+3
Looks like N. Allen may be his main competition.
