LOL...Fernandez

Has this guy ever not given up when entering a game? He looks like a pitcher but he doesn't pitch like a pitcher.

I honestly dont know what hes still doing here. We dont have to putright dfa him since he has options but its clear he has nothing and doesnt have last years form. If you dont want to add anyone to 40 man, just bring back granillo or someone. Im done watching fernandez this season
Fernandez was a good, reliable reliever until Dusty Blake started screwing with his delivery. The only way Fernandez can remain a major league player is to be traded to another team or for the Cardinals to bring in a competent pitching coach (which will probably only happen under a competent manager).
Fernandez was a muddling 24 year old mediocre A and AA pitcher who his previous team thought so little of they exposed him to the rule 5 draft. Last year was the exception to his minor league career. Not the norm.BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 11:08 amFernandez was a good, reliable reliever until Dusty Blake started screwing with his delivery. I don't agree with that at all. He had a pretty normal rise through the minor leagues, pitched well enough at Memphis to earn promotion, then pitched well for the Cardinals. Again, until Blake started screwing around with what had gotten him to the major leagues.Wattage wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 11:57 amFernandez was a muddling 24 year old mediocre A and AA pitcher who his previous team thought so little of they exposed him to the rule 5 draft. He had issues well before blake.

When a guy pitches well he's lucky, then Blake got hold of him to bring out his true suckiness. Got it.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 14:35 pmBrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 14:23 pmI don't agree with that at all. Fernandez was brought directly to STL when we claimed him from Boston. No Memphis involved. He didn't earn his shot. We kept him up because we had to (which he did pretty well). He had a lucky, decent season last year and this year has regressed back to what he was - a rule 5 guy.

Here is why:stlbirdlover wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 14:37 pm He's stunk it up all year. I don't understand why they recalled him from Memphis.
That's a bit too broad. He was having a very effective 2024. About mid-season, the announceers mentioned how Blake was working with him to change his approach and delivery. His performance began to noticably degrade after that. That tells me the pitching coach was screwing around with what was working, to the detriment of the pitcher. I don't think luck had anything to do with it.Cardinals4Life wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 20:53 pmBrummer,BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 18:58 pmWhen a guy pitches well he's lucky, then Blake got hold of him to bring out his true suckiness. I think your facts are betraying you. 2024 - Fermandez brought straight to STL to pitch. Pitching Coach was Blake. Had a decent season. (Yes, I think it was a fluke.). 2025 - Has sucked bad all year! Again, Blake was his Pitching Coach.
Not really arguing anything with you, just saying he had one decent year in STL as a rule 5 pick up in 2024. I think we got a lucky season out of him. Pens are fickle like that sometimes.
So you think he is actually good?BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑12 Sep 2025 09:32 amThat's a bit too broad. He was having a very effective 2024.
