I listened to the Gashouse Gang show today with Tom Ackerman, Chris Rongey, and Bernie Miklasz with guests Oli Marmol and Brant Brown. Brownie did not pull any punches when talking about the kids on this team and how some don’t really study or learn. He called out Walker specifically. In answer to your question, I think the coaches are coaching. Some of the kids are not listening and learning.Kentucky kid wrote: ↑03 Sep 2025 21:23 pm They know there is going to be a new staff next year. They obviously have started not to be scared what they say and who they make mad.
Pretty open and honest discussion. It also seems like the Cards are preparing everyone for moving on from Walker even if the return is very little. I don't think this discussion happened randomly. I am guessing Walker and Nootbar are traded for certain this offseason. If Arenado is traded, Gorman stays. If Arenado is not traded, one of Gorman or Saggese is traded. Gorman has looked better at 3B the last 2 weeks. So I am rooting for Gorman to stay. They are going to thin the herd and the coaches discussions appear to be a way to broadcast their intentions in advance.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑03 Sep 2025 22:26 pmI listened to the Gashouse Gang show today with Tom Ackerman, Chris Rongey, and Bernie Miklasz with guests Oli Marmol and Brant Brown. +1...last nights 'crowd' was an embarrassment and a fitting end to Mo-ran's legacy.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑03 Sep 2025 22:21 pm Great idea. Bring back the same staff and roster. And raise the ticket prices! Ol Billy boy & his wig-wearing weirdo son must have a bet to see how low attendance will drop.
What was said that they should be scared of?Kentucky kid wrote: ↑03 Sep 2025 21:23 pm They know there is going to be a new staff next year. They obviously have started not to be scared what they say and who they make mad.
Wow...how you came to that conclusion is laughable...ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 01:20 amPretty open and honest discussion. What wild [shirt] did they say?3dender wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 07:18 am I kinda think it's the opposite, they're scared of not coming back so they're saying wild [shirt] to try and keep their jobs. Very convenient for them to blame Walker for his failure, because the alternative is that it's their fault.
Brown especially is in a pretty uncomfortable position because after the first couple months of the season these hitters have sucked, and they're routinely taking fastballs right down the middle for third strike. If he can't convince us it's all their faults then he suddenly starts to look pretty bad at his job.
Brown’s comments illustrated for me how closely the coach/player relationship is to the teacher/student relationship. I also thought of the saying that “when the student is ready, the teacher appears”. I also got reminded how some of these young players are emotional children. They have thrived so far in baseball by relying solely on physical ability. Many haven’t had to listen and learn to succeed at the next level. More than ever, I was reminded that hitting a round ball with a round bat is hard.ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 01:20 amPretty open and honest discussion. But wait a minute, if the fans don't show up Bill is going to punish them by not spending the money on the team!!JuanAgosto wrote: ↑03 Sep 2025 22:21 pm Great idea.
