Faulk is difficult to trade unless there's an established RD in the deal back because they need to see how long a project they have with Mailloux first. He's also serviceable. Where he hurts you is in the playoffs as it gets deeper / more competitive. Inevitably he will have his moments there. So the issue with Faulk on the roster is the roster is trying to be championship caliber but it's not there yet and in the meantime he's serviceable. He is in that veteran time of where they look very good for a couple months and then it fades or vice versa, but he can handle minutes.

I would assume that’s why Justin Holl is part of the package.

IF Mailloux starts looking like a top 4 guy early in the year; I could be talked into Holl, Plante and a 2nd as the return in a Faulk deal. Holl isn’t great, but he’s more than acceptable as a 3rd pairing RHD. BUT I need to see Mailloux holding a spot before I pull the trigger.

Agreed.

The main thing though is the Blues have near zero incentive to trade Faulk. We’re trying to win. We’re not in any sort of cap trouble. There’s absolutely no incentive to trade Faulk really. Even if Mailloux does take off and show he can replace Faulk in the top-4, does it really make us better to swap out Faulk for Holl? No. Adding Plante and a 2nd certainly evens the ledger and makes it a fair deal…but that still doesn’t mean it’d make sense for the Blues to do it.

If the Blues are making trades, they need to be focused on quality IMO. This would be a quantity trade. We already have more prospects than we’re going to have spots for so adding Plante and a 2nd doesn’t do a lot for me tbh.

Send them a counter-offer: Kyrou or Buchnevich, Faulk & Jiricek for Seider, Sandin-Pelikka & Brandsegg-Nygard

I think sometime around the Olympics we will know if it is something to consider. See how things go first half of season with our current D and with prospects in the AHL.

Yeah I agree with everything you say. I just lose my mind with his crazy fumbles at the most crucial times in important games. I actually like him on a day-to-day basis but his mistakes seem to be the most costly

He’s in a tough role … or was. Paired with a rookie who isn’t known for his defense at this point.
