It only seems knee jerk because you’re used to Mo.

In his last five starts before being DFA'd, Fedde went:

3.2 IP
5.0 IP
1.1 IP
4.2 IP
3.0 IP

He wasn't eating innings and he was objectively ineffective. It was willful negligence on the part of the St. Louis Cardinals, LLC to continue allowing him to participate in the sport.

I'll generally agree with this. The decision would have made some sense if they had ended up acquiring a MLB pitcher or two at the deadline. But even with that possibility open, the timing was odd. And we've since been told they had a specific type of player they were targeting at the deadline and MLB pitcher wasn't it.

So dropping Fedde for being bad whilst plenty of others were also bad and it was clear we would need innings, yeah, that doesn't make a lot of sense. At least DeWitt saved some cash though!!

Hindsight can suggest that the last possible date to trade Fedde and receive a return was June 24.

There were a couple of starts where Fedde could have been left in the game longer.
2 games he had only given up 3 runs. 3 were lopsided games like last night.

Hindsight makes us all geniuses.

Cutting him made perfect sense not trading him in the offseason made no sense

Would have been useful in a game like yesterday when Pallante gave up 7 runs in the first 2 innings. Get Pallante out and let him rest his arm instead of having him throw 90 pitches for the 8th time in the last 10 games when he clearly has a tired arm.

Are you kidding? He became unpitchable. We have 2 more there, or nearly there. If it weren't so close to the end of the season the Cardinals would have to deal with them. As it is, they will probably ride it out.

The Braves released him. Maybe the Cardinals can bring him back to help improve draft position.

Fedde was an obvious DFA, so is Pallante.

Mikolas would be too but Mo would be admitting yet another blunder extending him.

Inning coverage ought to be more of a priority right now than success. We have a few good, young arms but we don't have enough depth to do right by them, which would likely be shutting them down.

I see Fedde was putting up short starts. What were his pitch counts in those games? If he was coming out way early, those numbers don't really tell the story. We need some vets to take the ball and throw 100 pitches. Just to account for a few innings so others don't have to cover them.

That list might as well have included Fedde or a similar deadline acquisition at a low cost, if there was one available (there seemingly always is).
