Winn backing up third

Winn's play backing up third saved the game. It was all hustle and backing up a play that would normally go unnoticed. Frankly, it is the way the game should be played.

It was an incredible play! Many times the SS fails to back up the throw from the pitcher in similar plays, and even if they do, they do not catch the wild throw. Winn saved at least 1 probably 2 runs by his hustle and great effort.

Great baseball play, great baseball anticipation. A play like that is what I've always taught kids. On every single play during a game you've got to anticipate several different scenarios, on every given play. Like previously mentioned, it goes unnoticed in the box score and not every player has the awareness to do that. Kudos to MW.

I was taught the same. Our high school coach moved on to coaching college and coached over 900 college games. We were taught to play the game right.

Any player who properly backs up his space, will many times be rewarded with a play that night hanger he game. Just as much action and glory doing the little things.

I want that kid as my SS to build my D around. Period. The problem is our lineup is not deep and has a million 1B/DH types. On a good roster, Winn is your anchor at SS and batting 7 or 8. Imagine a lineup that was actually good and well balanced, and Winn is your #8 hitter.......

Correct!!!

And funny how all these 1B/DH types still don't produce anywhere near a 100/30 clip!

Yes it was a heads up play. If the play/ball goes left, you go left. If right, you go right. Almost without exception this leads to being in the right place at the right time. Fundementally sound baseball.

like the Brendan Ryan years. Only better at SS.
