Will Bloom view Herrera as part of future?

He's been slumping badly.

Since ASB -- .231/.308/.292/.601 with 2 HRs, 2 doubles and 11 RBIs in 147 PAs.

The power and even his BA have gone off the cliff after his 1st half of .320/.394/.529/.924 with 8 HRs, 8 doubles and 36 RBIs in 175 PAs.

Have pitchers adjusted, or have injuries taken a toll?

I know Bloom has a lot of work ahead of him, but one job will be determining whether Herrera should be part of the future. I'm not so sure now, especially since he's essentially now a DH with little power. He won't be the future catcher here.

And he'll be 26 next year.

It will probably depend on how he finishes the season. He will catch fire again and have another hot streak so it probably depends on what his numbers look like at the end of the season.

Herrera HAS to hit and hit with power, he has no real defensive position so he better get that bat right

Entire team is slumping now as if it's over- Bats are giving concession speeches every game now. Everybody, likewise, should be playing for a spot.
Everybody. Finally, money should not be the determining factor as to whether or not a coach remains. Coaching for their jobs

We have way to many hitters who can't field. My guess he'll be traded for pitching.

He swings at way too many bad pitches. He isn't Roberto Clemente and needs to get a pitch in a hittable zone. He won't get back on track till he shows the discipline to lay off bad pitches.

His OBP is .355.
OPS+ is 119.

To those who never played the game at a serious level, news flash: everyone's asz drags in August.
It's hot, humid, and you've already played 130 games.
He is one of two bright spots on the entire team.

Huh, must have touched a nerve. He still needs to get pitches in a zone he can handle them. Or he won't hit. Period.

That is true of any hitter.

The other bright spot has been more consistent because he has worked at swinging at pitches in the hit zone, not chasing.

And 175 PAs of hot don't mean that much when evaluating a guy for the future. And I see lots of players hitting just fine in August. He was born in the tropics. I'm certain he isn't using that for an excuse for lousy hitting his last 147 PAs. We shall see how he finishes up.

And if he's going to be a DH or corner OF, he needs to power up. He has no future here as a catcher.

He can't hit for power.
Never has.
Never will.
in 647 PA, he has an extremely weak 40 XBH's.

"Will Bloom view Herrera as part of future?"
Does not matter much either way.
Herrera won't be - and Bloom can't change that.

Agreed. Herrera needs to either find a position he can play everyday or develop his bat to an .850+ OPS.

Trade him this winter while teams think he is better than he really is. Don't pull a Mozeliak by overvaluing a player until he has lost all value. Everyone on this team should be available for the right return.

Hopefully, Bloom is more aggressive with player transactions than the deadass Johnny bow ties. This team needs an overhaul.

I hope he will be more aggressive too, but so far that has never been his method.
