Gorman's lack of hustle

I hope everyone noticed his lack of hustle on the ball he hit off the top of the wall for a single.

He’s a DH.peterman'srealitytour wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 08:36 am He is better of late. Really seems to be better about laying off the high fastball that he chased all of last year. That said, he really needs to hit that pitch out over the plate to LF. Still rolls over with weak ground balls trying to pull it.
Not sure where you put him long term. Too many throwing errors from 3B. They seem to be grooming Wetherholt for 3B and that would put Donny at 2B.
Agreed.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 08:22 am Gorman is actually starting to show that the different approach is paying off. The walk rate is up and the power is coming back.
Yes, that is the problem. He is a poor fielder so he is a DH type. He would be meh at 1B too. The team is very poorly constructed. You have Burley, who, while he works really hard at being an OFer, is not who you really want out there. So he becomes your first baseman or DH. Oh wait, we have a first baseman. There is Herrera, whose bat you want in the lineup. Oh wait, he has to DH because he is a mediocre catcher who cannot throw any runners out. So he is taking flies in LF. Our first baseman was a mediocre catcher and you don't want him hurt so he is our first baseman. At least we have a GG quality shortstop and a decent defensive CFer most games. Some pieces need to be traded and we need guys who are actually decent defenders at their positions. You cannot have a team of 1B/DH types, especially when none of them are truly stud hitters. WC should be batting 5th or 6th in a good lineup.swatski wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 08:45 amHe’s a DH.peterman'srealitytour wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 08:36 am He is better of late. Yep but if you are a Gorman hater you aren't going to see that. Sorry haters he's taking his walks, settling into the position and playing himself into starting 3rd baseman next year.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 08:44 am Also, it wasn't a lack of hustle. It was poor judgment if anything. He hit a (bleep) missel that he thought was gone, so he didn't bust it out of the box immediately.
Even if he had busted it out of the box, he isn't the fastest runner around, and that rocket off the wall in that bandbox, there are no promises that he isn't gunned down at 2B anyway.
I don't hate him. I hope he continues to hit. But he is a very poor defensive third baseman and it will cost us runs next season.2ninr wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 09:08 amYep but if you are a Gorman hater you aren't going to see that. Don't get me wrong. I hope he gets better. I expect him to get better. It used to be his primary position. But you've watched this team operate long enough it's clear that's where they want him. But i don't want him either if his offense doesn't continue on an upward trajectory and he regresses. Anyway, that wasn't really the point. He wasn't " not hustling" like the op tried to say. He thought the ball was gone. Different mistake.bccardsfan wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 09:10 amI don't hate him. I hope he continues to hit.
