Pallante can function as a #5 starter but not if you expect to win a division title.
He’ll likely be in the BP moving forward as a 6th or 7th inning guy.

I’ll agree with this. The problem is he can turn in some solid starts but then he just gets blown up and knocked out early. If he were able to go 6 innings with 4 runs or so when he doesn’t have everything going he would be serviceable as a 4th starter because he can pitch well when when everything is working. But when he just doesn’t have it all working he get blown up and knocked out early

True
I specified 5th starter on a .500 level team.
To hope to win the division he’s a BP arm.

Still settled in and gave five innings, four run ball. Yes that’s a mountain to climb, but this performance is also as a number five in a reset. Designed to see who can stick.

Pallante will stick, as previously noted, he throws a gem occasionally.

Gray
New FA
Libby
Pallante.

That’s a good .500 staff or better.

Both Libby and Pallante have pitched more innings than any other year. Can that have something to do with the drop off?

Both seem to be on a similar glide path. Two young hurlers with like performances while pitching an extra load. In order to grow you gotta throw. Builds a particular level of endurance.

The idiocy, laziness, and general buffoonery of John Mozeliak cannot be overstated.

18 years with the final say in all baseball decisions and he can’t provide his manager with 5 ML-worthy starting pitchers.

During the 2023-2024 offseason he had to sign 3 FA starters just to have a 5-man rotation for ‘24 and “in order to give the youngsters time to develop”.

And the only guy who has developed enough to actually provide non-laughable ML innings is McGreevy.

It truly is a ridiculous situation.

Evidently, there are some lefties in the organization, other than Mathews, that are really pitching well. Maybe some help is on the way.
