I wish this reunion were at the village, though, where you could have a beer and talk baseball with this great gang of players.

Not the best, but by far the most exciting Cardinals team in my lifetime. 1985 was the most fun baseball season I've ever experienced, rivaled only by the 2011 season after mid-August. It's too bad they were essentiall robbed of a World Series ring.

I'm not participating in any blast from the past activities until they start doing some sensible things in the present. I live in the present.

I would have to rank 85 and 04 at 1A and 1B as far as entertaining seasons. Neither team won the WS, but they were both great years.

I too have fond memories of 1985. A solid, fast, fun to watch team. Won 101 games and had the best record in baseball. I've never had season tickets and hardly go any more, but that year was my only personal 20 win season at 20-9.

My dad and I went to a game in late Sept to see if John Tudor could win his 20th after starting 1-7. He proceeded to shut out the Phillies on 4 hits in a game that went 2 hours and 19 minutes and we won 5-0. A two out walk to Ozzie in the bottom of the 8th allowed Tudor to come to the plate (remember when pitchers batted?) and he got a long, loud standing ovation from the 24k that attended. He finished 21-8 after starting 1-7.

I was just looking at the remarkable year he had. 275 innings pitched. He had 10 shutouts (led the league) and 14 complete games (Doc Gooden led with 16) and a 1.93 ERA. He had two 10 inning no-run games, both against the Mets. He won the Sept game 1-0 and had a no-decision in the Oct game, which the Cards lost 1-0 to Ron Darling, saved by Jesse Orosco that went 11 innings. He finished second to Rookie of the Year winner Doc Gooden in the Cy Young voting.

Other than Bob Gibson's achievements, I can't remember a better season by a Cards pitcher in my lifetime.

Joaquin also had 21 wins with 12 losses and a 3+ ERA and pitched 269 innings himself. All 5 Cards starters had winning records. Danny Cox was 18-9 with 241 innings, Kurt Kepshire was 10-9 and Bob Forsch was 9-6. I know starter's w/l doesn't mean much anymore, but it did back then.

Great pitching, solid defense and a dangerous, fast offense that drew 2.6 million fans. That really was a great Cardinal team.

My most enduring memory of '04 was the feeling that for every game there was an expectation to win. I mean from the fan perspective. It was almost a surprse whenever they lost a game. Down a few runs? Ne problem? They'd come back. They always did. Well, of course they didn't but it sure seemed that way.

That's just dumb. If you can't enjoy the success of your past what is the point of winning in the first place? So you can brag and feel better than everyone for the next year? You should always celebrate the good things from the past. Your attitudes are pretty narcissistic.
