Leahy as…

Starting pitcher next year? Stretch him out in spring training and Pallante to the pen? He had 26 starts in the minors as recently as 2022, albeit not great starts. These extended outings he has had recently make me think he could be able to handle 5+ innings every 5 days or so.

Very good chance of that.
Particularly with all the questions revealed this season with Pallante and Liberatore.

never impressed me, nor anyone else who followed him as a starter through the minors

Just b/c he started, doesn't mean he can. It's seems to be the same song and dance we each try to croon when trying to figure out the rotation.

Keep him in the BP...imo.

maybe the new R&D guys can make him a serviceable starter? I don't think so...but maybe. :?: :?: :?:

Yeah, kind of like the backup quarterback in football is always the most popular guy when the team is struggling. Shoving him into the rotation would be no different from the current philosophy of seeing what we have. New blood is needed.

I think the idea/concept of turning him into a starter is simply a byproduct of the lack of legit arms we have/have coming. But, I'm with Duce, here. I think this would be a reach. Keep him in the pen.

No brainer. They will almost certainly try it

He sucked as a starter in the minors and hasn’t pitched 100 innings since 2022 so if you start him next season you’re going to hit a wall with him with innings mid season or shortly after and that’s just so he could be a 4 or 5
Starter. I think he’s far more valuable as multi inning bridge reliever or even a closer who can come in with one or two outs in the eighth and finish it off than trying to develop him as a starter where if he doesn’t suck like he did in the minors then he will be at best a 4 starter

yeah...he really sucked as a starter in the Minors....that 2022 AFL stint as a reliever gave him life again in the Org, he turned in a really good performance....I had him pegged for DFA before that.

He has been good out of the pen this season. So of course this dysfunctional, misguided, penny-pinching organization will move him to the rotation.

We are looking at a potentially disastrous rotation next year. Gray will be 36. Liberatore cant get through 5. Pallante is inconsistent. And Leahy will be on a tight innings limit i assume.

Our new rivals are the Pirates. A heated competition to avoid last place.

Agree. Leave him where he is finding success. He is and can be an important part of the Pen. Go out and get a legit starter in FA and one by trade.

Free Agent
Gray
Trade Acquisition
Liberatore
McGreevy

Mathews in the wings.

Good analogy

I'm not against having anyone prepare as a starter next spring if the organization thinks that they can handle it. And I'm not banishing Pallante either. They're going to need innings, so anyone who can give them innings, and they think might make an okay starter, I'm good with them at least coming into the spring as a starter.

I find it depressing that we have such a shallow talent pool of young starters from which to draw. Lots of AAAA stuff and command. Lots of guys who might top out as bonafide #3 MLB starters. Very few arms that can dominate a playoff lineup.

He was great in the bullpen. We just moved out three important bullpen guys. Time to make him a starter!

That's already been telegraphed.

Leahy will be told to train as a starter this winter and could replace A. Pallante if he has a solid spring!

he'd be replacing Mikolas
