Only ten have done it five straight times, and the list was formidable. If he gets another one next year, only ten have accomplished that feat ever, and only about 5 to do six straight.
I think we missed out.

It’ll be interesting to see if he can flirt with 30/30 by years end. Not betting on it but it’ll be fun to track.

And the year before, 2020, he broke playoff records.
6 years of good-to-great baseball.
What an odd trade…

During our stretch of bad ball 12 years or so.
Had he been here for those six, I’m betting the team overall would have had better success.

Well, we definitely could’ve used in 2020-2022.
2022 was a magical year with [shirt] outfielders.

What's remarkable is how much more efficient he is at stealing this year, 23 S to 3 CS. He has had pretty mediocre success rates in the past ranging from 66%-75%, which is maybe not even break-even. This is the first year he is definitely providing more value with SB than the outs he is running into.
Seems to be having his strongest year across the board actually, so possibly peaking, possibly has found a new gear in Seattle. Good for him. Still don't think he'll age overly well with that K-rate.

K rate be dammed. His other overall play works. Would be a staple in our OF. Maybe even a tutor to Walker and Scott.

It’s be interesting to see how much the new org had a role to play in this?

I’m interested to see if he can push one of his counting stats into the 30s before the end of the season.
24 doubles
23 HRs
23 sb
Not sure he’ll get any of them to 30 but if I had to guess I would go with SBs.
He seems to go into single slumps from time to time which is why I went with SBs. But he can get hot hitting HRs and Doubles so who knows…..

Yep. There’s two kinds of doubles. Those to the gaps and down the lines, and those legged out. He has the speed for both. Then turns single into a double with a steal.
Not to mention the mental shake up of the pitching battery.

These three surprised me.
Darryl Strawberry, Kirk Gibson, Howard Johnson.

Indeed.
Terrible mistake.
I was the only person on the planet to oppose the trade at the time and who predicted his immediate breakout stardom.
Stunning that Super Slo Mo could not see what he had.

They surprised me for being a base stealer, and then for five straight years. But,,,,
I’d have taken any of them on a Cardinal team.

You raise a very interesting point.
If you could have your choice of Strawberry, Gibson, Johnson, or Arozarena for 5 years, which would you choose?
