Aren’t relievers more important in the overall scheme of things than they’re given credit for?
Especially with starts going less innings than in the past.

Keep in mind that obrien(not oreilly. Its riley obrien) is a 30 year old who failed to be consistent enough to stick in majors until now- even last year he was getting rocked. He could easily blow up again next year. relievers are fickle.

Who would have guessed that out of trading montgomery flaherty and dejong that dejong would have fetched the player performing best at mlb now.

Montgomery brought a haul - Saggese, King, and Roby. King had a 1.45 ERA in his 1st year with the Cards. 2.45 ERA in his 2nd year. Having a tough year in 2025.

Montgomery was 3 - 1 in post season with Texas. It was a terrific trade for Texas.

Saggese and roby are hopes. And with each injury roby s chances are dwindling. I was high on saggese butnthis year has been disappointing for me. I will give one more year before i pass judgment on him though.
King has mostly been a solid reliever til he blew up this year with injuries as relievers are fickle. He cpuld easily rebound next year but he is 30 and probably wont be part of the long term future. Although at the time of the trade we werent committed to a rebuild yet so king made more sense as a return at the time. He has 2 more ywars of control. Maybe if he rebound next year he can be flipped for a useful prospect.
