Another Matter

Hampson is another Matter player. Do the Cardinals really project Hampton to be on the 2026 roster? Reminds me of the infielder Matter. Mo loved Matter, but could not make up his mind rather to designate him for assignment and bring him back, or release him, and then resign him to a major league contract. Come on man (Mo), let’s bring someone up that may be here next year, or 2027. This is not rocket science.

Yes, another Motter. Same kind of player signed every season - a cheap journeyman who can play multiple positions, usually on the infield.

Someone said he’s a buddy of Arenado who recommended him.

Seriously, is Matter now in the Cardinal’s organization? I seem to remember a post or mention in Trade Rumors.

I get it but that would be just one more player they are trying to find playing time for and can’t get enough at bats for. Hampson is just bench rot

You'll never convince the "bootlickers" as some love to call them. hehe!
He is definitely a Motter 2.0, though. At least he doesn't look like a pedophile, though.
But only Mo would have signed Motter to 2 contracts in the same season after releasing him once when no other team in MLB would even give him a tryout.
*Sigh*

I’m against bringing someone up to set on the bench. That’s what Hampson does, set on the bench.

Church and Antico have spent years earning promotions, and working their way up through the Cardinals system. They finally get to Memphis and are hitting well, especially Church - who is hitting .337 with an OPS of .918 right now. 25 years old.
So a Cardinal outfielder goes down, and who do they bring in? A 30 year old who’s been cut from 2 MLB teams this year and was hitting .167 for both of those teams. Can anyone explain that? What a downer for Cardinal minor leaguers.

Hampson has been with the team about 7 weeks, and has 22PA.
Does he have so little playing time because:
1. He’s bad?
2. Or the org favors other players on the roster getting playing time and Hampson is merely a backup who can play a lot of positions?
The answer is #2.
The org wants to see what the current players on the roster can do. This isn’t Hampson vs Church. It’s Walker/Burleson/etc vs Church. Hampson is merely a more versatile Siani.

Don't players lose rookie status if they're on the roster for 45 consecutive days? And call ups in Sept don't count toward service time, right? The answer might be that simple.
