Did the 3 you reference play in Stl with the Cards for 3yrs?? I understand you’re used to the MO development process of giving a subpar player 5 yrs in the starting lineup to then figure out by their late 20’s…….that they’re just not that good
Just curious….How many more years do you give Walker to hit .220 with an under .700 OPS???

I'll say this. It look me a long time to get used to it, but .280 is the new .300. In my mind, the average BA in baseball should be in the low- to mid-.260s. The past decade has seen a trough nearing historic lows: the low- to mid-.240s. Traditionally one doesn't get excited about .270 and .279, but those are good numbers in these times. Burly and Winn are fine. What about the rest? I'm ready to part ways with Gorman, and I'm starting to get tired of waiting for Noot. Walker is actually starting to hit, .290 since the ASB. He started the year hot, went ice, ice cold, then rebounded, hitting .278 getting hurt. Ready to move on from Pages. Scott? Not ready to give up on him either.

I mostly agree. You can live with VS if you have production in LF/RF. The league figured out Gorman and Walker and they’ve been mostly helpless since. Do they adjust and Learn how to stay on the ball??? Haven’t seen a consistent approach yet

There is not a one on this list that I would not trade. Even Winn. But there are several that are potential parts to a very good team……like Winn.

It is interesting you list Pages. I have always considered him a plug in for Herrera’s failure as catcher. Why didn’t you list Herrera? If he can’t find a place on the field, I’m not sure he is a keeper.

Good post. Good debate on these guys. IMO, the best thing that can happen between now and end the season is that these guys provide more clarity on what they are as players.

Here’s my take:

Winn looks like the long term solution at short. Established a floor as a good player. Can he take next step towards elite.

Burleson can be an everyday player. Power or defense not ideal for corner OF on this team. We need some mashers around him in the lineup to justify him as an everyday guy.

Victor looks like a good 4th outfielder. He’s had a good consistent run of PT and doesn’t get on base enough to hit at top of the order. Defense spotty.

Pages solid backup catcher. Nothing more.

Gorman fits as 2B. Understand the health concerns. With 500 ABs, he’s a 25 HR guy. That’s a plus at 2B. He looks more disciplined this year under Brant Brown. Play him everyday rest of the season.

Walker OPS trending up and better at handling outside corner. Also improved under Brown. However, he’s not an everyday player unless power #s spike up. RF with bad defense better have a big bat. Unlike Gorman, his improvement lacks power. Play him every day rest of the season but doesn’t look like an everyday player.

As to VS, I was thinking more in terms of his potential breakout year at the plate being next season. If it it doesn't happen, then the evaluation on whether there is enough offense elsewhere to justify his defense in CF.

All three highlighted soon turning 27/28....they aren't "Utes" anymore (and Pages is JAG, needs to be gone and Crooks brought up after 8/15)

Also, he's lost speed since last year according to sprint speed stats, so how long before he has more speed regression to make playing him in the OF a bigger liability? It was pretty bad when he couldn't score from 2B on Winn's opposite field hit in the 6th inning the other night.

Good point. That was surprising and disappointing. Didn’t know if that was slow speed or poor jump.

First, he has no business being in the OF where his sprint speed ranks in the bottom 10% of MLB and his OAA is -4.

He's a DH/1st baseman

Platoon only player

I think he could be part of any deals C. Bloom makes this winter.
