6 losses back for WC with 46 games left .. Can they ?

NY Mets are in 3rd WC spot with 52 losses
Reds have 55
SFG have 57
and STL have 58 losses .
At 58-58 , the Cardinals have 46 games remaining .
Currently the Mets are on a pace of .548 win percentage . That would equal 89 wins (rounding up from 88.776) for 162 games.
If 89 is the magic number , Cards would need to go 31 wins & 15 losses.
Are the Cardinals capable of finishing at a .674 clip in their final 46 games ?? .. slightly better than 2 of every 3

Um no. This rotation is .500 at best. This lineup, while given to flashes of greatness, sputters between those flashes. The stripped down bullpen will not sustain long term success. Pozo's pinch hits are fun to watch!

This is not 1964, and these are not those Cardinals.
The answer is a clear no.

No.
I'm not sure they will finish ahead of the Pirates.

It is not impossible...
2024 Detroit Tigers
July 28, 2024 - Traded Carson Kelly to the Texas Rangers. Received Liam Hicks and Tyler Owens.
July 30, 2024 - Traded Mark Canha to the San Francisco Giants. Received Eric Silva (minors).
July 30, 2024 - Traded Andrew Chafin to the Texas Rangers. Received Joseph Montalvo (minors) and Chase Lee.
July 30, 2024 - Traded Jack Flaherty to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Received Thayron Liranzo (minors) and Trey Sweeney.
On August 2, 2024 their record was 52-59 and they were 16 games out of the division race and 9.5 games out of the wild card race.
On September 30, 2024. their record was 86-76 and they were in the playoffs as a wild card team.
They beat the AL West Champion Astros 2-0 in the WC round.
They lost to the AL Central champion Guardians 3-2 in the Division Series round.
However, the Cards starting pitching would have to get their act together and the bats would have to heat up again. Basically, we would have to revert to the St Louis Cardinals of May 2025.

Basic Analysis: Teams that have terrible starting pitching and an offense that no-shows 3 times a week rarely threaten to take a wild card slot, even if expanded to 10 teams in each league. Only thing that's kept this team at a respectable record has been the bullpen, but it too has some holes.

The biggest bummer about the 2023 team was how soon the games became 'not meaningful.' As a Cardinal fan, I'd grown accustomed to at least be in the hunt through mid September.
So though I don't expect much from the 2025 team, I would love for them to get on a nice streak and get within 3.5 of a WC spot.

So the answer is highly unlikely.
