Jason Varitek new Cardinals manager?
How's that play with Yadi, Pujols, Descalso, Holliday, etc.

Interesting idea and could be what the team needs going forward. FIrst round draft pick TWICE, went on to have a very good career as a catcher. Been in the post season including two WS both of which his team won in 4 straight.
While I'd like to seem them get an experienced manager Varitek might be a better choice then Yadi or Albert. You hire Yadi or Albert then you have the concern that if they fail, you have to fire a Cardinal legend.
"In November of 2020, he was designated as game planning coordinator on manager Alex Cora’s coaching staff, and in 2021 was named player information coach.
The position of game planning coordinator largely deals with the analysis of player analytics, in conjunction with implementing strategies between the Red Sox starting pitcher and the catcher; catching coach entails game planning regarding pitching and catching. As Alex Speier of the Boston Globe wrote about Varitek: “[T]he role of game planning coordinator was a natural outgrowth of a combination of his skills, his role in recent years, and the explosion of information in the game.”"

spot on with this. add that Yadi was named a special asst and never showed up once.
Holliday accepted a position then immediately backed out
If Clapp never got a shot, not sure why Descalso would even make sense

Honestly, id like the hire. From just Cardinal fan standpoint it would be controversial hiring him over Yadi. From a sensible standpoint he’s always been a leader and a winner and has been around some great managers both as a coach and player. Always remember him being tough as nails too.

I’d be fine with it as long as he wasn’t a yes man. Pushback, civil discourse, different opinions are healthy and act to make the whole better.
From afar he seems to have the DNA of a man who will speak his mind

That's the one thing people don't get about hiring Molina or Pujols...you REALLY want to fire a legend? Not just a Cardinal legend, but a baseball legend? I wouldn't. We have enough unforced PR errors.

I've always thought Molina would make a far better pitching coach than a manager anyway. He's one of the only ones that can curate and properly channel the Dave Duncan pitching philosophy.

As a player or a coach/manager?
I honestly believe he could still hit better than half of this lineup. I think the same about McGwire.

Need I remind you Yadi basically quit on team?
Never showed up to help out in spring training

A Yardbarker column reprinted from SI that is a reprint of something from Redbird Rants. These clickbaiters are determined to cannibalize themselves.

Not suggesting it isn't a consideration but they did fire Boyer and to a lesser degree Torre was legend lite. I really wonder if either is even a good choice let alone the best choice.
