Unlike many of you with regards to Donovan

I’m okay with not having him locked up for like 4+ more years.
As of now, it’s 2+ years, with his last year in STL coming at age 30.
Yeah I’m good w that.
Also, any sustained struggle on a longer contract would make him virtually untradeable like DeJong was.

I'm glad that we have a guy who is pitching for our team right now that we were able to get for a guy that was "untradeable."

There's still time to trade him in the off-season. Let's see what Bloom does.
I am not advocating trading him, but they need to do something to fix this roster of misfit or redundant position players.

Got to trade Nootbaar and Burleson before you trade Donovan imo

Absolutely

IMO - Donovan should be untouchable. Until Analytics can measure the "Whole Player," this cannot be the sole variable in roster management. There are players that make other players around them better, their baseball IQ, attitude and grit transcends what analytics reveal.
Cardinal management would never sign a player like Yadi today because his analytics aren't indicative of the value he brings an organization.
Thats why Larussa/Duncan were so good at building teams - they saw beyond the numbers

LoL. Hurdy is not that special. Trade him. You don't build around Hurdy Gurdy

It's the Cardinals. We'll hang onto him a season or two too long then salvage him for a middle reliever.

Yes the redundancy of this roster has been ongoing for years.
Evaluate, make a decision, trade the dead weight then fill in the missing pieces as the budget allows.
I'd shop Donovan and see if someone wants to overpay otherwise he's still cheap keep him and perhaps get an offer later on.
I like Donnie ballgame but you're going to finish near the Pirates next year with or without him.

You are either moving Donovan or you are moving
his replacements.
IF it comes to Donnie being an OFer I keep Burleson for that and let
him back up 1B/DH. Burleson is as solid in the OF and brings more SLG.

Got to trade Nootbaar and Burleson before you trade Donovan imo
Bloom has his work cut out.
If JJW is going ot play 2b, where does Donny go? Third base is an option, but that depends on NA.
Donovan (2.4 fWAR; 2.3 bWAR) never played OF before 2022, and he's -2 DRS and -2 OAA this year in the OF. Not good.
Amazingly, Burly (1.5 fWAR; 1.3 bWAR) is a -1 DRS and -3 OAA, about the same as Donny. Still, neither is good.
Walker (0.7 fWAR; -0.9 bWAR) is a Work in Progress -- with little progress. He's -7 DRS and -3 OAA. Awful.
I'd trade Noot (1.0 fWAR; 1.2 bWAR), but he won't bring much at all. He's better defensively than the other three, but that's not saying much.

Noot still doesn't stay on the field and from what I have seen this season
because of that history he MIGHT, 100% opinion, be playing more conservatively, thus
loosing some of his D advantages. Burlesons arm is true out there vs Donnie along
with more SLG a team need. So even IF their D is equal.
They might need to choose a lane on this one. Does BD stay on the infield is really
the question in my mind. Pretty strong that JJ gets time. Does JJ play LF until NA or BD
goes? When added with what can be received in trade, age, contract, all options should be
on the table.

Noot sure, Burleson is younger and with an additional season of control.
None have to be moved, which makes it interesting to see what
plan emerges.

Donovan has been pretty pedestrian since his first couple months. He's on the way back to basically his career average season.
They should trade him while people still have his All-Star selection in recent memory.

Exactly. It's a multi-player shuffle that needs to happen. We have to rely on Bloom to have a plan that addresses the whole roster. Trading guys on the fly at tr deadline isn’t going to work. The guys that left were going to be gone either way. He still has all of his options open. I look forward to what the team looks like on opening day. I expect it to be very different.

Unwarranted extensions have been a MO problem. Bloom should be capable of deciding when to apply the extensions. MO did several that are painful, especially the Mikolas ones.
