It’s stupid it took this long it was obvious he wasn’t right. In June he hit .275 with a .730 OPS and came through with some big hits and plays then June 29th he injured his finger and admitted he changed his swing to compensate for it which lead to the shoulder injury and he’s nose dived ever since. It’s about time

My guess is that it took so long as the trade deadline was fast approaching and putting him on IL then would have definitely squashed any possible trade possibility. Teams rarely trade for guys on IL.
In this case, other teams were not fooled regarding his injuries(finger, shoulder impingement). They viewed him as damaged goods right now.
In fact, unknown if Dr. on trading club would have said he doesn’t pass their physical which is required for all trades.
If they failed him, trade nixed.

You may be right they might have hoped he would be somewhat productive and gather some interest unfortunately it backfired because he sucked and it was obvious he wasn’t right and hurt the cardinals because he was still playing everyday

Playing injured and sucking made it even less likely that he was going to be traded.

Not playing and being on the IL wouldn't help either. NA is a competitor who has always
taken on a challenge. It's who he is, becoming MLB star, a possible HOF 3B.
He was on a 4 month tryout for other teams. NA is a gamer. He answers the bell as often as possible.
That's something, IMO without substance, Gorman and Nootbaar could learn from.
Also in opinion bases bias without proof NA isn't at his best when playing with pressure or distractions.
Both of those started this off season and increased as months passed and the trade deadline
kept getting closer.

He wasn’t good last year either. He has been on decline for years, this didn’t just “start” this offseason.
2022: .891 OPS
2023: .774 OPS
2024: .719 OPS
2025: .660 OPS

I disagree. I would rather Gorman and noot and any other player admit they are hurt and go on the IL than try to keep playing through it sucking and hurting the team even more than if they were on the IL like arenado did. Arenado admitted he played through the finger injury altered his swing because of it which lead to the shoulder injury if he hadn’t been stupid and played through The injury he would have injured the shoulder and might have gotten back to the June production which while not great was .275 and .730 OPS instead he sucked and hurt the team that’s a selfish player

From another perspective, you can credit Arenado for going out there and doing his best while getting daily treatments from trainers to keep him playing. A wimpy player making big $$ could have gone to Oli saying I can’t tough it out. Many players play with assorted Stuff.. Winn’s knee had injection etc. So while his offense was struggling, he gave it his best. It ‘s up to Oli to sit a guy but I won’t fault Nado for playing banged up. He is a competitor and being paid well . He plays hurt like his teammates. I commend him for that.

When you’re OPSing .440 for the month and playing hurt it doesn’t make you “strong” it makes you “selfish”.

Too many people talking like this is just a down year, rather than a very clear and very steady decline. Unless he has a bounce-back next year he becomes literally unplayable.
