The pitchers they kept shuttling back and forth to Memphis will stay up instead of being sent down kind of like mcgreevy stopped being shuttled when they traded fedde

The pitching

Out:
Fedde traded 7/23
King moved to IL 7/30
Helsley traded 7/30
Matz traded 7/31
Maton traded 7/31

Still Here:
Gray
Mikolas
Pallante
Liberatore
Romero
Leahy
O'Brien
Svanson

New Guys: (all pitching well for Memphis)
McGreevy --- replaced Fedde as SP
Graceffo --- already announced to replace King
Granillo --- my guess for Helsley
Fernandez --- my guess for Matz
Munoz --- my guess for Maton

Other possibilities: Chris Roycroft, Curtis Taylor, Oddanier Mosqueda, Nick Raquet

Ugh. I had happily forgotten about him until looking at options today.

Other possibilities: Chris Roycroft, Curtis Taylor, Oddanier Mosqueda, Nick Raquet

The 40-man roster stands at 36.

The Cards are in a good position to pounce on pitchers released by teams needing to clear 40-man space for their pitching acquisitions.

such as Bryan Hudson from Alton, IL?

Clever observation; but remember that the 60 day IL goes away for the winter. We remain limited to the 40 man roster and Rule 5 in December.

True but these guys can go:
Mikolas: NTC won't save him when his contract ends
Hampson
Baker: will be 29; out of options; disappointing 2025
Koperniak: will be 28 and disappointing 2025
Siani: Scott seems to have his spot
King: will be 31, disappointing 2025; makes more than MLB minimum
Roycroft: will be 29 and disappointing 2025
Z Thompson: will be 28; needs to show something by end of season.
Fermin: out of options
Gorman: needs to be traded in the offseason; could not crack the 2025 starting lineup

IMHO: Cards must choose between Pages and Crooks. Trade one of them.

Do you mean Pages or Pozo instead of Crooks?

I like Pozo as the backup catcher. He's decent PH option in addition to being the backup.

Pages or Crooks would be the main catcher until Bernal is ready probably late in 2026. We don't need 4 catchers + Contreras + Herrera on the 40-man.

However, you are correct, we could go with Pages and Crooks and dump Pozo.

Well said. How many rule 5 guys need to be protected?

Jimmy Crooks
Leonardo Bernal
Joshua Baez
Cooper Hjerpe
Blaze Jordan
Cesar Prieto
Nathan Church
Bryan Torres
Brycen Mautz
Max Racjic
Ian Bedell
Curtis Taylor
Alex Cornwell
Drew Rom
Pete Hansen
Oddanier Mosqueda
Zane Mills
Leonardo Taveras
Jack Ralston
many more...

Some will need protection but...

if they aren't good enough to be on the Card's 40-man roster are they really good enough to be on someone else's 26-man roster all year?

I wonder if they will try different guys as closers or just go with one. I would try JoJo first!
