I've thought about this for a bit. For the last few days I've been telling myself that I would be (upset) if the Cardinals didn't at least check out the market for guys like Burleson, Nootbaar, Donovan, or Gorman. I liked what we got for those guys, but my first reaction when all we moved at the deadline were the relievers was that I was initially kinda (upset) we didn't do more to rebuild.

But I've thought about it some more and I'm changing my mind a bit. For one, Nootbaar and Gorman are hurt. Are teams really beating down the door for two guys on the DL right now? Even if they're interested, how willing are teams that are gearing up for a postseason run going to be to give up MLB ready talent, which is what we should be getting for those types of players? Do they want to risk messing up their team chemistry to trade for them? Burleson and Donovan are playing a lot better, obviously, but again, we're likely asking even more for them. And rightly so.

So I'm thinking the offseason is the right time to make those trades. Teams can reevaluate their rosters and move some players around more freely. Maybe make some moves that would otherwise scare them off during the middle of a playoff run. Also, it's completely Bloom's team then.

So yea. I'm good with the trade deadline is what I'm saying.

Donovan and Burleson in particular will have more teams interested in them in the offseason than at the deadline --- relievers are the biggest commodity moved at the deadlines for the most part. I have no clue if the Cards did well or not but they got something for players who likely were going to walk after the season.

Yea, that's what I'm saying. They're gone no matter what. During the offseason there's more teams to deal with and more players available. I mean, if I find out later that they passed on some stud prospect for a dumb reason, I'll be (upset), but as of now I'm okay with how it went.

Maybe they should have also traded Romero.

Bullpen was one of our few strengths. Not anymore!

I would have traded one of Burleson or Nootbar but that can wait until the offseason or even the next trade deadline.

Right now, I would have traded Burleson since his value is peaking and Nootbar's is in a valley. Might be different by the offseason.

That's why I don't see why so many are up in arms. Unless they were given the offer you can't refuse they should wait for the off season when the new POBO is in charge. The only player I thought might still be traded was Jo Jo simply because as noted relievers are the focus at the trade deadline and he had the added value of another year of control. I assumed Helsley and/or Maton package and/of Jo Jo would be very attractive.
