The same way they would have if they had not traded the free agents and those players signed elsewhere..

I'm actually ok.
They had to get rid of the main four FAs who had a chance to be traded - Fedde, Matz, Helsely and Maton.
Am I happy with the return? Not at all, but these weren't All-Stars.
Far worse was hanging onto any of them.
Nado and Miles were never going to be traded.

Now CT can turn to hating on Bloom.

No, because all we got rid of was 3 bullpen rentals who were 31, 32, and 34. I'd hardly call that some big selloff.

We'd rebuild the roster by actually doing a rebuild, but lots of people around here don't understand what that is, and the FO does not appear to have the stomach to do one. So, to answer your question, we'll probably not be competitive for awhile, so we'll have to rely on Bloom being able to build up the farm as fast as he can. Once those players start maturing, then maybe we'll be getting somewhere.

Unless the front office is going to start spending a bunch more money than they ever have in 30 years.

No.

Why is Nootbaar still here? Why is Gorman still here? Why is Romero still here? Why did we ONLY trade three pretty important pieces of our bullpen and get back mostly lotto tickets? Or dudes with "good peripherals" but who absolutely suck when it comes to the bottom line? Why didn't we address the redundancies that clog this roster up?

I expected no blockbusters. I'm not shocked that we got zero major league talent for TODAY. But crikey, I didn't expect to have to squint so hard to see MLB potential in 5/6ths of who we traded for in the past 24 hours.

They are 40 and at best a 50 grade prospect. That's not speculation. Its just proper interpretation of scouting reports.

You call that selling?

They had to sell those guys for sure (the pending FAs). The problem is that none of them were apparently that valuable and what we got back is a lot of minor league guys who don't really project to ever being major league ballplayers (though with prospects who knows). So we kind of swapped zero value for post-2025 for something slightly greater than zero, which is still better than zero. The real miss here was not trading Donovan and Burleson, assuming there was real interest. I keep seeing people talk about the Winter Meetings, but it seems as though teams are much less interested in making deals for utility/one-tool kinds of guys like that in the offseason when there are more ways to address those kinds of holes if you think you have an otherwise contending team. I guess we'll find out.

And if Bloom/BDW really want them back, re-sign them in the offseason. Doubtful of that, though.

You may eventually be proven correct, but for at least the next year or two, "next to nothing" is pure speculation.

Who should we have "sold" that doesn't still have control (or a NTC)?

Very short sighted view. We received players to add to our prospect pool for players we were going to lose for nothing.

This gives more depth for Bloom to trade from in the offseason to make larger trades.

There is also a chance one or two actually have an impact for us at the major league level.

Please tell me why you were against this? It makes zero sense to hold the players.

Once Mo realized his career in St. Louis was ending his plan was to do as little as possible. This offseason he only tried to trade Arenado. He failed and made no other moves.This trade deadline he only tried to trade the expiring contracts. He signed only one free agent this offseason for one year.
He did not want to have any effect on next year by adding or subtracting from the roster. It’s Bloom team now going forward. Look for moves this off season as Bloom shapes the roster to his liking.
