Phil Maton is expected to be the final trade for the Cardinals. Teams have inquired about Brendan Donovan, Alec Burleson and Lars Nootbaar to varying degrees, but St. Louis has "not entertained that up to this point" according to a team source. President of baseball operations John Mozeliak said twice in July that if the Cardinals sold, it would likely be limited to players on expiring deals — similar to how the organization operated when it last did so in 2023. Ryan Helsley, Steven Matz and Maton are all pending free agents.

Cards need to trade several players they have a log jam between AAA and majors of similar players.

They wait until these players have no value.

They love being middle of the pack nowadays. Zero creativity from the front office. Either fully go all in or fully sell for once. This organization is just so poorly ran.

This is what happens when you don't take calculated risks and play everything in the safe lane. No guts, no glory.

Put a good return on the offer and then let them go. If they get desperate you get it. Not willing to even just list the offer to the desperate..what does that cost lol
