Describes it a “[fork]ing heist” for the Cards.
Of course we’ll see, but seems a lot of people like the deal for the Cards

It was the exact opposite! He loved it for the Mets
Keith Law of The Athletic, who primarily covers prospects, had the complete opposite reaction, calling the deal a "[expletive] heist" for the Mets.

Sounds more like it. I wonder if any of the 3 we got will still be with the team in 3 years.

Keith Law of The Athletic, who primarily covers prospects, had the complete opposite reaction, calling the deal a "[expletive] heist" for the Mets. Andy McCullough gave both sides B grades while Tyler Kepner graded the Cardinals' haul as a B-, and both of these writers are also from The Athletic.

This is not accurate. Law said the opposite.

Glad Law didn't like the deal from the Cardinal POV. The guy is an idiot who most of the time doesn't know what he's talking about.
Now if other teams were lining up to give us their top 5 guys for Helsley it might be different, but next year, the Mets won't have Helsely and we're have at least two pretty good prospects that we wouldn't have had otherwise.

I’m not going to absolutely blast the trade but I’m underwhelmed regardless. However I will like it (slightly) more if Bloom had a hand in it.
If we found out he was just told to go wait in his room until Mo is off the phone then I’ll heavily suspect it to be an awful trade

+1.
The Mets get another top reliever for their playoff run. Of course, everybody in NY is wetting their pants. But it's a 2 month rental.
We will see in a couple of years what return the Cardinals got. Ceilings are a RH power hitting 3B. Back of the rotation starter and a reliever. The Floor is nothing.
But you have to roll these dice. Helsley was gone anyway.

Strategically it’s probably not a bad place to send Helsley. He’s going to want to be a closer and Mets already have Díaz at closer, so Helsley probably less likely to re-sign there.

We would have got more if Mo had attached another player to the deal but I have a feeling only players moved will be those on expiring contracts and player returned will be years away. He wants to leave a clean slate for Bloom.

Evidently a clean slate and an empty ballpark as well.
