Passan - The Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing a deal to acquire closer Jhoan Duran from the Minnesota Twins for two top prospects, sources tell ESPN. The biggest move of the deadline so far is almost complete.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that those two prospects are catcher Eduardo Tait and right-handed pitcher Mick Abel.

Ok so let's see what the chain reaction is. This is just the beginning so don't bemoan yet.

Why would you expect the same return for a closer who has been better this year, is younger, and is under team control until 2028?

Unlike Helsley, Duran is having a great season, and he is not a FA at the end of this season. He is arb eligible next year, and will not be a FA until 2028. Easy to see why the Phillies wanted him, and gave up a pair of their top prospects for him.

Good, bad, or indifferent, we have to be patient for only 21 more hours. But my confidence in the front office is low. Really hope I’m proven wrong, but Abel is a heck of a pickup for the Twins. Tait is a heck of a cherry on top.
