Are Astros slow-playing a trade for Arenado ?

Houston / St. Louis trade still out there . Astros are floating (thru sources even yesterday ) that they are not that interested in acquiring Nado.
Correa mentioned as consideration by them . Of course GM Dana Brown was ticked that in talks he had with Arenado last winter when Mo was discussing potential trade with them that he (Brown) could not convince Arenado that the team was still going to contend this season.
In fact, Brown was quoted as saying ' He (Arenado ) misunderstood our plan this year. '
It could be that Astros are laying low a bit in their interest to keep the price down for a trade tomorrow. It is nothing new for a team to go from mild to not much interest 2 days prior to the deadline to going hot and heavy on the final day . GM's never want to appear to be too eager for any player. The more eager you act, the more the other team wants in return . It's a game both teams know well.
With Astros now leading their division , Arenado would most likely have a different view of the Astros now than last December. He used his leverage back then to nix being traded. He may change that stance tomorrow . Would guess both him and MO know today whether he would accept a deal . They both talked in the past week. It's a secret . If he is dealt , Mo would probably come out and tell us when Nado informed him he would be willing to be traded .

Simplest explanation is that nothing that convoluted is happening.

Hou is the trade that Nado actively nixed. Also he doesn't want to move midseason. This isn't happening even if Hou wants him.

Correa is much preferred..
He’s younger, better, and indicated he will waive his NTC..
But….the question is how much cash Minnesota will toss in….

The only way anyone will take Nado is if the Cards covers most of his salary for the next two years. Having said that I would make the trade/

I've read that to but.................
Astros have “no interest in reigniting talks” for Arenado, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports.
Of course BN has been wrong before, ''Tigers in three"

I sure hope they are, and I hope he accepts it this time.
His OPS in July is .436.
In 2019 Jack Flaherty had a .451 OPS.

Disagree. Nado is willing to go to anyone in contention at this point. And he realizes Cardinals will not be contending for the remainder of his contract.

Now this article released at 8 a.m this morning has Nightengale flipping stating that Astros are considering Arenado once again ....

While Arenado may not be their first choice , it sure would make sense he could be their backup plan. Their 3rd baseman Paredes being out for the remainder of the season changed their plans big time. They need someone solid to play 3rd base or possibly be screwed for playoffs.

It will have to be a bundle….
They are right at the threshold already…
Crane has gone over a few times….but this would be a lot..

AND ... I would add to the above points that he formerly played for the Astros. They know exactly what they are getting from him .
Having familiarity with Correra is a big factor in him being their first choice . I see Arenado as a backup option.

Not sure I would say he’s better. Correa has a 0.1 bWAR/1.1 fWAR. Arenado has a 1.1 bWAR/0.8 fWAR.
And Correa is owed a lot more $$$ than Arenado is.
I would stay away from both personally. A team would have to be pretty desperate to be dealing for either of them.

I'm a NADO fan, not a hater but for the good of the team let's hope he goes.

Like the thought, but perhaps reverse the players.
Could it be they are floating Arenado for leverage for a Correa trade?
