That was per John Denton who's reporting I trust about as far as I could throw him He also said - "the right-hander again conveyed that he prefers to stay in St. Louis — at least for the remainder of the current season. Barring a late change of heart, it seems Gray will remain with the Cardinals for the balance of the regular season."
Cinn is a worse team than the Cardinals and any trade would require taking on his $35m salary next season. Gray wanting to go to a lesser contender and Cincinnati wanting to add that payroll seems unlikely at best. Healthy, the Reds have the best rotation in the Central, eventually the National League. They need their offense to click on a nightly basis, a decent veteran or two could help all come together. Cincy is a game and a half better than the Cardinals in the standings and are loaded with young talent. The Cardinals are much farther away from competing than the Reds are. Standings change daily and are close-ish to even. Meanwhile We've beaten them 4 out of 7 head to head.
