Just do something

Standing pat makes no sense. There is a roster crunch in the OF when Wetherholt comes up. 2 of Donovan Walker Burleson Nootbar and Gorman need to go so they don’t become worthless bench peices. There are giant holes for a RH power bat and 2 starters going into next season. Not to mention the pending FA that could move. If they don’t make several moves it is just the Owner/POBO sticking it to the fans.

I agree. I miss the days when teams made "player first player" trades, where both teams addressed a hole. You rarely see that any more. Its now "player for potential players". Give me a good 6 player Whitey Herzog kind of trade.

The fans are begging for effort. The roster has an over abundance of good role players that would have value to almost any team. Small markets would have interest in cost controlled youths and contenders would have interest in Helsley and others. It’s about fixing the bad roster construction in OF 2B and SP. use those assets

Hopefully, Mo doesn’t hibernate this week like he tends to during the winter.

No, don't just do something. That has the ring of a trader Lane move. In his career he traded Schoendienst from the Cardinals and Rocky Colavito from the Indians.
Instead, the FO which should now include Bloom to carefully decide the value of the players on hand, and what it would take to make the trades that are possible. This would be more systematic and productive than what we have been experiencing over the last few years.

Standing pat won't happen. Hold on to your hat as you are going to see multiple deals most likely on Thursday in the last hour or so .
They are SELLING ! You may not like all the trades but if you want trade action by the Cardinals you will see it . Get ready !

I like your enthusiasm! But I don't forsee a lot of movement. Helsley for sure. Maybe Maton. Possibly Matz or Romero. Not sure any bring back anything great.

You have to remember that it takes two teams to make a trade. With the big market vs the small markets there are a lot of teams that are looking to cut payroll or fix a problem. Our NTC on Gray, Contreras and Nado certainly hurts because all of them could have been moved. It is foolish to trade just to make a trade and we don't want to give away the future core of the team. Lot of deals are made at the GM meeting too.

The answer, dawg, is respect and appreciate the past, be frustrated about the present, and be hopeful for the future.

It would be nice to see some sort of PLAN
What was it this year?
Play Yutes??
How’s that working out?
What was the plan when it was discovered that Yutes not that good?? Another year to show us they’re not that good?

For many players, it takes a few years at the major league level to come into their own. Walker may be one of those. Give him time. Sometimes patience is hard, but it may be worth it in his case.

Respect and appreciate is fine, but all this board does is live in the past. This thread, which is supposed to be about Thursday’s trade deadline, has references to Frank Lane, Red Schoendienst, Rocky Colavito, and musical groups/artists who were popular 50 years ago.
