It would be dumb and set the team back to not sell. Anyone who doesn’t support them selling this trade deadline isn’t living in reality.

The fallacy here is thinking that getting a return actually makes us good

At least selling has the potential of landing a few good players. Doing nothing and letting free agents walk guarantees you nothing.

Well, you at least have to do some selling.

Except that players who are going to be free agents may help you get into the playoffs and do well.

Pittsburgh Pirates model for success. Draft and develop a top 5 at his position player like Donovan and then trade him with years left on his contract because we won't be able to re-sign him.

100%
Sell
Helsley
Maton
Matz
Anyone else (on the ML roster) too if the return is someone C. Bloom wants for 2026.

Hurdy is top 5 at what position? 2b? He's 29th in outs above average. -1 . A 0 in runs prevented. 26% in fielding run value. His DWAR is 0.
Solid bat but I think his D is way over valued
He's arb eligible this year and s FA in 2028
Sell

What does keeping the expiring contracts do? Not even trying to get better is the fallacy.

Donny's a very good utility player. But his 2b defense has, as you say, always been overrated, maybe because of his GG for Utility. Bad rage and so-so arm. His best position has been 3b - even with the arm, but he's hardly played there since a very good defensive year in 2022 (+8 DRS/+3 OAA).

Solid bat. Range factor above average. What would the Pirates do?
