Arenado

I understand he doesn't want to leave and is going to invoke his no trade clause --- but what is to stop the cardinals from saying 'ok fine' you can stay but we want to see what we have in JJW and are going to bring him up and play him at 3rd. So if you invoke your ntc you will become a bench piece for the rest of this season. Anyone think this might cause him to reconsider? Does anyone think DeWitt/Moronzelak have the brass to make such a move?

No. If Nado is on your team you play him. He's still highly regarded by his teammates. You cant insult and embarrass him and expect to hold the respect in the clubhouse.

Been saying that since spring training. You’ll be criticized on here for: 1. you would hurt his feelings and 2. No free agent will sign with you again. Get ready.

No it wouldn’t. Arenado is a pretty vocal guy when upset and he would crush the cardinals in the media and all good players signing contracts now want no trade clauses and none would want to sign with the cardinals knowing they will give you a NTC but threaten you and bench you if you refuse to go where they want to trade you. The cardinals could do it but it would be a dumb dumb move

The difference between MLB and the NFL is the NFL would make that move to bench an old quarterback in favor of an up-and-coming QB. It seems in the Majors the salary plays.

in the NFL you can just cut someone and stop paying them

Not always.

Didn't this just kind of happen just in a built in way for Arenado to save face? Gorman gets the first shot but how much longer until we see JJW?

Well, he played himself into this situation.

There are ways to convey the message that he is done here.

Nobody wants to be somewhere where they aren't wanted.

The threat of the bench usually does that.

His no trade list would dramatically increase this offseason.

Some of you are missing the current state of things. There is no place for Arenado to go any longer, regardless of him waiving his ntc.

When he nixed the Houston deal I said they should bench him. I took all kinds of heat in CT. But I was correct.

No they don't. Helsley was his only friend. He's not a leader

And no one will still want him. Good luck signing FAs if you treat them poorly

100%. He’s on this team for the rest of his contract. They can continue to build and improve the team while he plays 3rd. That concept is hard for some…

But lets don’t forget if you sign a contract for big dollars you also have an obligation to play well during that contract. He has not done that. The commitment between a club and a player can’t be one sided. Player can’t say pay me big dollars and I will give you a mediocre performance. I think most athletes understand it’s a two way street. As mentioned it’s common for big NFL players to get benched when not playing well. Should apply here also.

They’ll certainly miss his defense but not his bat.
Gorman needs to play every day along with Walker.
Need to get a read on them both heading to the offseason.
