Observations from Denver: a plane to catch.

I have client meetings in Denver tomorrow, so I arrived a day early to catch today's game.
I try to do that 2 or 3 times each year, when my travel schedule aligns.
The Cardinals looked like they had a plane to catch and wanted to be anywhere other than on a baseball field.
Burleson, Scott, Donovan, Winn, Walker, Contreras, and Arenado were all visibly disengaged.
Not paying attention.
Lethargic.
Took multiple plays off.
Pozo was the only position player who did not look bored.
With a lot of red in attendance, it was easy to converse with STL fans in the same section, in concession areas, and after the game.
Some locals, a lot from out of town like me.
An awful lot of frustration and disgust.
Understandably so.
Folks appeared to be of the common opinion that the sweep in AZ pretty much to all hope and competitive out of the Cardinals.

I'm part of a season tix group in Section 148....I'm seeing and hearing the same thing...fans don't appreciate being taken for granted and ignored.

It definitely appeared that most of the team was just "going through the motions".

Good for you for making the game, Melville.
You were able to witness the first Rockies shutout in 220 games. No, really.
Respectfully, I would say the team cashed it all in much earlier than that. They have been getting consistently crushed since the Cleveland series. They are 4-15 since then.

I was at today's game, and that sounds pretty accurate. I've seen some stinkers, but that was the most lifeless one I saw.
Coors is a nice place, though.

The whole team has played this way since the All Star break. It’s like they are throwing games on purpose to justify the trading of players.

The Cardinals are not only losing games, but they are looking really bad doing it! For instance, today Arenado made two bad throws that Donovan and Contreras were able to corral and save him two errors, but he really looked lazy making those plays.
They all look like they’ve just checked out, no fire, or energy at all. 2023 all over again.

This ultimately comes back to Ollie. He’s lost the clubhouse and can’t motivate the team. Mo could turn over the entire roster, but this will just happen again at some point and Ollie won’t be able to recover the morale. He’s clueless.

And just had some terrible at bats. The whole team did. The Rox SP had NO control that first inning. Too many AB's were 1/2 pitches.

In a normal situation, I'd say this is on the manager. But this isn't a normal situation. Marmol has little influence on anything. Mo wants to neuter his managers. The players know oli has very little stroke in the organization. They know he's forced to play certain people regardless of results. Since this is the case, the manager struggles to have leadership.
The players know there's a good chance some will be dealt within a week. They know most are being made available whether traded or not. For many, their days in StL are numbered.
These factors lead to loss of focus, lack of effort, and poor play. Granted, professionals should push through and perform their best. But that's not always the case. And may in itself be another issue facing this team.

The Morale stinks. How could it not.
Guys may be moved. Friends relocated. Few want to get uprooted and have to resettle on the fly with a lot of dudes you don't know.
You Dog It, maybe some of that interest disappears. Or maybe you mope cause you a girly man at heart. Lol
Had a good run. Maybe hoped FO would keep em together or supplement around the margins.
Not a shocker their flat. Going nowhere and fast.

It has to be depressing knowing that some of your teammates will be traded to a contender and forced to work well into October.
Maybe a few old veterans will be DFA'd and get full pay while having to spend more time with their families.
Then to compound the problem, some of your friends currently in Memphis will be promoted and forced to play the game of baseball on an MLB team for $2,000/hr.
It is tough being an MLB player for a mediocre MLB team.

Arenado is not a winner. He is not a leader. Great player but not a winner. I imagine Houston is looking pretty good right now.

My 42 year old son lives in Denver and was also at the game. He texted me and said the Cardinals looked awful.
