Give Graceffo another chance to start?

With Fedde and Mikolas needing shut down and Libertore on innings restriction McGreevy replaces one and Matz might get traded. Why not try Graceffo? He was was a really good starter in AAA. Why not stretch him back out and see if he can succeed? It took 3-4 times for Libertore to adjust. Maybe he should get another shot.

do you have time to stretch him back out? He's started only 4 games this year. He's been moved to the BP. I"m all for giving him a Starting shot in the MLB rotation, but I don't know if we have have the time for that, unless it's done quickly....3 starts? Is that enough to get 3-4 innings out of him with St. Louis? That's an Mid August start at the earliest....is it worth it with only 5 weeks left in the season at that point? And like I said, you're only getting 3-4 innings out of him if you rush it....is that worth it? To the team and his health?
I'm all for it next season, but it has to be in the plan...let him prepare for it in the offseason. Let him come to camp in February in Starter Shape raring to go day 1.

Crav, would this work now? Have GG start a bully game, go three-four innings or as far as he can, then very gradually increase his innings? Or, would this screw up the 'pen?

If you can find a stretch in the schedule where you get a day off nearly every week, you can make it work. The problem is....Can he have a short inning multiple times? He's typically a WHIP monster when he starts, and makes for long innings. If his starts turn into 2 inning affairs, it'll be bad b/c you'll have to get help from Memphis b/c we overtaxed the BP

It was said during a broadcast the cardinals like his arm out of the pen and think he could be a late inning reliever. They didn’t specify who likes him in that role though I don’t know if it’s Mo or bloom but it looks like at least this season he will probably stick in the pen. But it wouldn’t be hard to start
Stretching him out though just let him piggy back after the cardinals getting blown out early and go 3-4 innings and build up

Thanks, Crav. It seems like it would be impractical and our pitching is already so stretched. If we cannot get rid of MM, he could be the follow-on for GG's bully start, since I doubt we use MM for much else anyway.

Graceffo just threw 3.2 innings and 66 pitches in relief his last time out. With more time to prepare and counting on starting rather than just randomly being asked to go long relief by surprise, its not a stretch to think he could throw 80 pitches. Especially since he knows to pace himself when starting vs when in relief and no idea how long ylull be asked to go.
He could go 80 pitches easy. Whether that cam get 5 innings deoends on day and whether hes efficient.

He has the makeup of a closer.
If Helsey is traded, I'd give GG a shot.

his fastball plays better in relief...that's for sure.

When was he a good starter in AAA?

What is his full repertoire including velocities?

Prepare him to close. Of course the current group will probably convert him to be an outfielder.

He wasn't in 2023 or 2024 or with the MLB team
