Been thinking about Gomber today as he pitches for the Rocks tonight against the Cardinals. I remember liking him quite a bit coming out of Memphis. Showed a lot of promise coming up in 2018. Anyone else remember the game at Cincy where he carried a no-hitter into the seventh when suddenly the fire alarms went off throughout Great American Ballpark. After they cleared the false alarm, Gomber lost his no-hitter and the lead, though the Carinals won in extras. A lot of folks believed the alarms were set off on purpose.
Anway, Gomber had a lost, injur plagued 2019 but still looked promising when he was the key piece of the Arenado trade. Funny, but he's the only one from the Cardinals side that is still playing. The others, Mateo Gil plays in the Mexican Leauge, Toney Locey is out of baseball, Elehuris Montero plays in Japan, and Jake Sommers has officially retired. Great trade for the Cardinals.

Didn't end up netting us much, now its a dead weight deal. I will admit i was happy with the trade and would do it over again

Side Note: Montero made a bit of news last week with his 'reported' 594 ft HR off or Trevor Bauer. It was a bomb for sure.

When you think about it, shouldn't they set off the fire alarms when Mikolas is pitching?

It gave us a MVP caliber bat and GG for multiple years. The fact we couldn't turn that into Playoff wins is on Mo and Oli. Nado was not the mistake and Gomber certainly wouldn't have gotten us as close as we were to being good.

It would have helped if Nado went better than 1 for 12 in the postseason though…So he is in fact partially responsible for not winning playoff games. Especially when we were tied or leading heading into the 9th in 2 of the 3 games.

He is LH and throws a lot of slow junk. He will probably toss 5 innings of shutout ball tonight vs the Redbirds.

Now you did it. Helsley's trade value just took a hit as memories of 2022 were stirred again.
