Surely they’d fetched an interesting lottery ticket. This franchise is more than a year away from contending. Anyone in that pen should be on the block

Trade all of them. O'BRIEN for closer.

How they approach the BP has a lot of twists compared to how you approach the rotation.
Sign/extend Helsley??
It’s looking more and more like he’s dealt at the deadline.
If so how do you construct the BP??
Maton for closer?? You could do worse.
Could Matz be a potential closer for a year + an option year.
Romero fits as a situational lefty.
I like the potential of O’Brien as well.
Also Graceffo!
King can probably go.
Leahy?? He was nails for the first 2+ months.

Trading Helsley enables the club to control what they receive in return..

Signing him is a long shot at best

Extending helsley would be an awful move but fortunately it’s not a move the cardinals will not even consider

Agree
And relievers are so volatile.
And....and as much as you need a closer to make a serious playoff run how much can you afford to pay one on a .500 team??

Stros have plenty of bad relievers already…

It’s a wonder they are in first place…..again…

These two need to go. Contending teams should be salivating at these two

Baltimore got two prospects for Soto. One of them unranked. Best case scenario we trade two of Maton Romero or Matz to the same team and get one really good prospect. Or combine Helsley and one of the other 3 and get a teams top prospect. Other than trading Donovan this is our best chance at getting something good back in a trade.

Romero, Maton and Helsley have all helped the team big time this year, so I just say thanks to all 3.
If they're dealt before the deadline, it'll hurt this year but hopefully help longer term.

JoJo has one year of control left, Maton has been almost as reliable as any setup man in MLB.

They fetch way more than a lotto ticket prospect (that's Matz).

The return better be solid or Mo's botched another one.

Jojo has an additional year of control so the return should be a little better than Maton.

I would talk to Maton, let him know we have real interest in bringing him back in the off season but that we want to give him a shot with a contender. I would flip him.

I know I am in the minority who would have extended Helsley, but that ship sailed. We have to maximize his trade value at this point.

Matz isn’t going to fetch much but no reason to hold into him.
