Gorman to First

Good morning.

When Willy leaves, we really don’t have an heir. In a year plus, first will need to be filled. I don’t think I’ve seen a Gorman to first idea. Maybe it’s a bad idea?

Gorman. Lefty hitter. Righty fielder. Has played mucho third and second.

Reminds you of the sluggers at first. Will his 20 plus Homerun potential play at first.

Gorman
Donovan
Winn
JJ

Herrera DH

That looks like quality and cheap. Very cheap.

Good idea. Bad.

Burleson has played a very good 1st, and I would bet that Nado will be gone before Willy

Two good points. I had Burleson too, but I was thinking more in future, say year or two, and Burleson wouldn’t be here.

Would my defense by formidable-Donovan, Winn, JJ.

IF he's proven he can hit in MLB, then Norman goes to 3rd base after NADO is dealt or his contract expires.

1st base needs to be the position, after WillyC is gone, that C. Bloom finds (via trade or FA) a true MOTO power hitter.

There ya go- power hitting first baseman. Gorman fits the bill, if he hits. Even a bad Gorman is good for 20 ish.

JJ has a shot to be another Brett type.

That’s a thought. But if Gorman plays there, and IH DH’s then you solve that logjam.

So far, and more than likely the consensus is Burleson. Again my scenerio doesn’t include him. Say traded. Would that infield hold water defensively, and would Gorman at first, out slug another.

Opens the he DH clog as well, moves Gorman off second or third, let’s JJ play third.

Yeah, JJ will be great in a number of varying spots.
Burly seems the most logical, as he can hit.
Gorman just can't hit man.
I don't know if something will finally click, but it's bad.
Also, he isn't much at 3rd base.
And forget about 2nd.
That ship has sailed.
He'd have to go to 1st or DH.
Burly has earned the job over him.

And Burly is only 26. His prime years should be coming up.

Gorman fits the bill playing his regular position BDog, power hitting 3rd baseman who replaces NADO.

JJW is going to 2nd base (or SS if they deal Winn), not 3rd base.

True.
I'd hate to give up on Gorman, but this off season will be a time of reckoning.
So hard to know when to throw in the towel.
Same can be said with Jordan Walker.
Look at D Carlson.
I thought he was going to be an all star.
It's crazy.

Moving Gorman to first can’t be called a bad idea. Keeping Gorman is the bad idea IMO.

I agree with Rock. Unless Stormin' Norman is traded, he will get every opportunity to be the third baseman. I cringe at replacing Nado's D with Gorman's, but that is the reality of the situation. I really like Winn and think he should be here long-term, but I am not running the club, and if JJ really is the hitter he appears to be, you may see Winn dealt. I hope not, but it is certainly possible. First base is easy. You can always find someone to play there. Hererra may end up there, who knows. I don't see Burley as a foundational piece unless he proves he can really hit for more than a 30-50 day hot streak at a time. So far he has not shown that. His only real defensive position is 1B though. He is not too bad there. Plus, you can afford to have a slow runner at 1B. You just don't want too many oxen on the base paths in your lineup. But traditionally your first baseman is one of them. Again though, I don't think Burley is part of the core I want to build around.

If JJ can hit, then place him at 2nd base.
If he's a SS, the risk of injury is too high.
Keep Winn for D and moderate offense.
Would be a dynamic combo.
