In case Burlington, Nootbaar, Donovan, Church, Kopeniak, Davis, Gorman, all die today, the Cardinals have drafted their replacements. Mitchell and Gurevitch fit the bill.

Awesome. Now they need to grab some more middle infielders and catchers.

He has a power grade of 45. That’s hardly encouraging.

Lots of angst over the draft that we don't know how will turn out.
Idk, seems like an annual ritual, but why?
Just enjoy and dream, why not?
We don't know what we don't know, amirite?

See my First round picks for the past 10 years thread. We now know how most of them have turned out so we can rate our past angst accordingly.

Total lack of excitement for Zack Thompson and Cooper Hjerpe? Seeming more and more justified.

It turns out that the path from being drafted on day one by the Cards to getting on the Cards MLB roster is long, circuitous, muddy, potholed, uncertain, foggy and an apparent c r a p shoot. Its kinda' not at all like the NFL draft or the NBA draft. Huh? Who knew?

Well Mitchell has a 50 power grade with a 60 hit grade. That’s not exactly “little” power nor is that discouraging. And he’s a 2B/SS/CF.

How many draft pick misses have the Cards, and every other MLB team had over that same time? My comment was not an indictment on the Cards. Just some context in the uncertainty of MLB draft picks making it to the big show.

Hes a shortstop with no arm,, hence they start listing other positions. he has not previously excelled at playing all three has he?

Yes, there is uncertainty. Since 2012 the Cardinals have the 2nd highest bWAR among draft picks I believe in baseball behind the Astros though. Baltimore is also 4th on the list. Those are 3 teams with St. Louis connections during that time frame. Houston with Luhnow, St. Louis, and Baltimore with Mike Elias who came from Houston, but started as a scout with the Cardinals and went over with Luhnow I believe.
