So when a manager is fired does it start with the owner or does the gm make the suggestion to ownership that the manager change is needed. What will it take for oli to be fired, I say no playoffs no job.

In most all cases, the POBO / (GM title ) is the one responsible for the team personnel .. both players on the roster , manager
Example: The Cubs POPO Jed Hoyer fired manager David Ross and hired Craig Counsell to replace Ross.
The owners don't make that call. Of course, the POBO will inform the owners that he intends to change managers and would cite his reasons but
he would not be asking permission. The POBO's responsibility is to make that call.

It varies with the owner and their style and degree of involvement. DeWitt is a very involved owner and weighs in on all major decisions. Other owners, like George Steinbrenner, make all the major calls. Others take lesser roles. Bottom line though, what the owner wants, the owner gets. If DeWitt wants Oli gone, he’s gone. If he wants him here, he stays.

Owner of course can fire anyone, at any time.

But unless they're George Steinbrenner-like they usually leave that to their POBO/GM after of course being consulted w/their decision to fire.

Hopefully Oli is gone after the final out of the Cardinals 2025 season.
