Flores also said , '“The fact that he’s able to miss bats with a couple of different pitches, really gets good separation on his fastball and split — I think (that) bodes well for his long-term chances to start. ... Acquiring 101 (mph) with that unique fastball profile on the free-agent market is very, very expensive.”
Imagine divisional games with Skenes vs. Doyle .. That should put some butts in the seats at Busch I would think .

Pirates are going to trade Skenes at some point in the next 1 to 2 years I feel. They won't be competitve for at least 3 to 4 seasons. They could use the haul he would get. We should get involved if they do.

That would be a tragedy to the sport. Organizations like Pittsburgh are leading to fan apathy. You have a generational talent like Skenes, who could be marketed as the face of the franchise - someone to build a rotation around. And the likelihood that Pittsburgh trades him away to get a haul of other potentials, instead of paying him his worth, is huge.

That would truly suck if they moved him. It would be typical Pirates though.
A friend of mine is a life long Pirate fan. Their motto is, we're always 2 years away from a 2-3 year plan.

It would be a waste of prospects because the Cardinals aren't giving Skenes the contract hes going to command.

Perhaps the talk of a hard cap may change things, but I doubt they get that done the way it should be.

Does Skenes want to stay in Pittsburgh at all? If they pay him what he is worth, can they put anything around him or do they still go 75-87 with him for his entire career?

I thought I’ve been told over and over here on CT that the reason everyone is hitting under .250 these days is that all teams have 100mph flame throwers with amazing spin and movement
And the home team can’t find this pitcher through all of the America’s and Asia???

You do realize the player has to want to stay in [fork]ing Pittsburgh?

If they start actually caring about competing and pay him, I’m sure he’d stay. The former needs to happen first.
If you trade him away for a handful of potentials, what’s your strategy? If one of those then pans out, you just trade them away as well.
Drafting and developing a guy like Skenes and then doing nothing is proof you’re a poorly run franchise

actually it is because players swing for the fences and strike out 200 times

You can make an equal case for both keeping or trading Helsley.
But if they don’t deal him at the deadline and he walks that is wrong.
And I don’t see making him a QO!

Well that’s my opinion……but some of CTers have been telling me otherwise
