Mozeliak hasn't done a "deep dive" into ticket sales and broadcast rights revenue

“I do think ownership, if they saw we were in a spot and it made sense to do something, I think they’d support it,” Mozeliak tells Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Mozeliak elaborated that he hasn’t done a “deep dive” into how ticket sales and the club’s broadcast deal have impacted things, but he expects ownership to invest in a contending club.

===

That comment surprised me. He is essentially the CEO of the franchise and he doesn't know what the profit/loss looks like? Maybe he doesn't want to know or does he know but doesn't want to say?

It was not a truthful statement.
He was deflecting from a uncomfortable truth that he did not want to get into.
Untruths and deflection.
You should not be surprised.

Of course he knows, he just wants to avoid the topic

He thinks fans are generally stupid and he’s completely apathetic at this point.

Exactly. Why they allow this Mo-ran to be the face of the front office is amazing!

Exactly right. Its his job as POBO to know these things. He's lying.

Indefensible.

But there’s still a few around here who will try.

MO’s personality does not endear himself to a fanbase.
I had a non-baseball friend watch/listen to a Mo interview and had him give me feedback.
His first comment was.. he uses doublespeak.
Does not come across as honest. He seems smug, not a guy a fan would have a beer with.

His responses seemed to coincide with many posters on CT

The. I showed him in-game interview of Brewer POBO Matt Arnold
MLB executive of year. Comments were: Believable, fan Friendly ,
Doesn’t [nonsense] , sense of humor, gives credit to his scouts, analytic group, etc. Not about him but a group effort.

Wow

If I ran my company that way I'd be out of business. 8O

I get it BDWIII runs the business side (OMGosh FREDO is in charge of the books   ) but as the POBO you absolutely have to know the basics of your business since you manage the teams roster/payroll.

He's either more inept than we thought or a liar.

Tickets sales and broadcast rights are the two main sources of revenue, how does this moron not know his numbers?

Agree 100%. Along with a new front office, the Cards need a new PR firm and a new marketing firm. As POBO, Mo might not get to see the full P&L. He’s not CEO, nor is he president of business operations. I’m sure he can see it if he asks, but he is probably given a budget to manage.

He’s definitely given a budget, but he’s more than simply a department head. He knows enough of their revenue picture to know what’s really going on. This is especially true when you consider how long he’s been there and how entrenched he is.

Why would he? That would require work and initiative. Two things he generally shies away from.

The question was raised about having a beer with Mo,why would anybody in their right mind even want to? At least Oli has a personality, weather you like him or not.

He is not the CEO. He is President of Baseball Operations. The business side of the organization is not his purview. That would be the DeWitts. It doesn’t really matter to Mo where his budget comes from.
