It is astounding how badly outfield talent has been assessed the last 10 years.

They could have just done everything opposite of the choices they worked to arrive at and been far better off. How could their choices be THAT bad? Almost like it was in purpose lol.

I would like to see arorzorena but lieberatore is turning into a pretty good start now that they are finally giving him a legitimate chance to start

I liked the trade than and like it better now. But they still screwed it up by rushing him at the beginning trying to save Mo face. No amount of time can go by to do that.

Why limit it to outfield talent? Moe doesn’t know how to assess any baseball talent. He’s a fraud and BDW is too stupid to recognize it. It’s a crime what those two have done to this franchise. Their ineptitude was on tv for the nation to see last night. Cranny is devastated.

Perhaps having an actual baseball man in a GM or other top role would help.
Someone who:
* is good at assessing raw talent and not just reading statistics.
* is not an arrogant, know it all or my way or the highway type. Someone who can take constructive criticism.
* is good at reading between the lines on players.
* can be detached enough not to stick with their mistakes.
* someone willing to make unpopular moves, like trading a player before their stock tanks.
* knows when to sell high and buy low

TLR/Jocketty/Duncan were so effective because they weren't threatened by the success of each other, knew and were confident of their strengths and didnt feel a need to prove that they weren't a fraud but instead leaned on each other, were interested in the bottom line of winning and would try new things to get there.

yep, the PR runner here even slipped up perhaps in a post and stated/admitted that Oli had neither the experience nor the background for the job when he took the manager job....

When the immortal Andrew Heaney and Colin Rea limit your team to 4 hits and 1 run over 13.1 IP, your roster has issues.

Some on CT were predicting a Cardinals avalanche of runs in the game against Rea with the wind blowing out. Result: 1. 8O

I can’t believe how many posters either don’t know or won’t admit the massive part HackGate has played in the past 10 years.
Dewitt had knowledge of Correa’s activities and obviously so did Mozeliak.
Correa fell on the sword and took the hit. Mozeliak kept quiet and was promoted to a position that had never existed in the 100 years of Cardinal baseball.
Bill DeWitt knows full well that Mozeliak sucks at his job; he just couldn’t get rid of Mozeliak until now - Mozeliak is wealthy and his contract is up.
Dewitt doesn’t love nor probably even like John Mozeliak, but he was never going to can Mozeliak after HackGate.

That all may be true but why let Mo run this thing into the ground……all BDW had to do was steer and manage MO…..not fly away and come back to trashed house from the kids partying….something doesn’t make sense unless they’re all just idiots.

So Contreras, Arenado, Winn, Burleson and Herrera also have very similar bWAR's to Nootbaar so far this season, and any of the 6 can be a decent part of a lineup if you had 1 star player to go along with it.
Wouldn't be impossible that Herrera can learn to play a decent LF in the off season. Possibly Baez could become part of the OF mix next year. It'd be great if the Cards would try to sign Tucker but .................
Currently your possible OF candidates for next year could be Noot, Scott, Donovan, Herrera, Baez, Burly and some others if they only stayed internal. That's not bad.

Sorry, Noot is not good. He has a sub .700 OPS and a .224 BA for badness' sake. Much more is expected from a corner OF. Much more. He also sucks with RISP with a 69 wRC+. Beyond bad. He needs to go.

I'm a Nootbaar believer, but it's tough to justify just giving him a starting spot in the OF. Good for him staying healthy this year, but he's been a big disappointment offensively, aside from a great April, when I thought he was finally putting it all together. Then he had an awful May and an even worse June. Very disappointing.
