Mikolas - last 6 starts

He’s given up 23 earned runs in 30 innings in his last 6 starts. Time to bump him from the rotation and give some young guys a chance. Tired of seeing him to be honest.

The reset move would be McGreevy. The win-now move would be swap him into long relief w/Matz.

Wish they’d pick one or the other.

If Mikolas is taken out of the rotation then he needs to be gone. He's not fit for the pen.

+1. He needs to be gone. His NTC and poor performance make him not worth anything on the market after these pitiful starts.

Agreed but Cards mgt won’t eat salaries. At least in long relief he’d be in games already out of hand in most cases. Maybe he’d be better in those less pressure situations. They can’t trade him for a bucket of balls either because of his high salary.

If he was pitching like he was a month ago someone might’ve bit at the trade deadline. Now Cards stuck with him.

My guess is they’ve been hoping he’d pitch well enough to draw interest at the deadline.
No way he is resigned.(Is there? LOL)
McGreevy obviously is next in line.
After him??
Matz of course could step in but boy I’d love to see him stay in the BP where he has been very very good.
Graceffo????
I think they don’t want to push Mathews, Roby, or Hence for this season.

I get the sense that they're preparing Graceffo for the bullpen. I haven't been on top of craviduce's threads as much as I'd like to lately--has he been starting in Memphis? I know he got called up recently during the Cubs series, but I can't remember if he's been shuffled back or not.

If he could get his stuff harnessed more, he could definitely be a Helsley replacement. Hard throwing starter who probably doesn't have enough secondary offerings for a second time through the order. But potentially lethal for an inning.

It does seem that he profiles better as a BP arm.

Graceffo has been used strictly out of the pen since May. Matz is not stretched out to start. The only guy they have that is a big league ready starter is McGreevy that is in Memphis. The bullpen has been really good and all the guys in the pen deserve to be here. Only King has been shaky. Svanson has options. What they should probably do is move Svanson to Memphis, put McGreevy in the rotation and put Mikolas in the pen as the swingman. McGreevy through 150 innings last year in the minors and has 61 at Memphis this year and 21 in St. Louis. So, he is on track for about 160 innings. If the Cards make the playoffs, I think McGreevy is arguably one of the top 3 starters. It is probably Gray, Liberatore and McGreevy as the playoff rotation. I would keep Mikolas so they can skip 1 McGreevy start every 3 weeks to manage his innings. They can then punt Mikolas off the playoff roster. He only sticks because they need innings protection.

Exactly. He's worthless at this point. Eat what's left on his contract if serious about competing. No other team is giving you anything for him. He doesn't even eat innings anymore. Tosses trash and hopes for at 'em balls.

My guess is we are stuck with Mikolas as a SP until at least Aug.
It keeps McGreevy down therefore they don’t start his clock yet.
It helps to keep McGreevy innings down.
Mikolas isn’t really built for the bullpen.
Mikolas has a NTC so we are stuck with him unless they release him.

If they tell him they plan to move him to the BP after the deadline then he may waive his NTC?
At that point they can start McGreevy and of course Matz is a fall back option.
They’ll have to eat some $$ but at least they will save something.

AT or near the bottom of MLB starters since 2023.

2023-2025 current
4.99 ERA
1.30 WHiP

I'd tell him "we're shopping you and if you don't waive the NTC, then it's bullpen or DFA".

Maybe some team would want him just for the innings.

Michael McGreevy is a way, way better option for those starts.

Mo thinks Mikolas is a "legacy" type Cardinal and he's NOT.

No special treatment, he either accepts a trade if some team wants him or pen'/DFA.

Enough of Mikolas :x

If Mikolas won’t waive his NTC, then they have to bite the bullet and release him, then bring up McGreevy.

That’s strong, almost a run per inning. What’s the team record in those six games.
