Saw him play and those Pirates teams in the 70's were loaded with good hitters.

Dave Parker, Willie Stargell, Richie Hebner, Al Oliver and others. They gave the Cardinals a run for the money.

R.I.P. Cobra. He always looked so dangerous at the plate and what an arm he had.

He was doing some weird stretching at Busch prior to the game. He bent over at the waist with both arms extended outward, one leg stretched backward and some big mouth fan from the bleachers shouted out,"Your attention ladies and gentlemen. Flight David Parker is now cleared for take off!"

Even Dave laughed at that one.

In his prime he was one of the best hitters I ever saw. Big powerful dude. Hell of an arm too. He never dogged it either. Always hustled. Just a great ball player. RIP big guy, it was a joy to watch you play the game.

Jayson Stark tweeted out yesterday a quote from Parker from when he got elected - basically said he’s had his speech written for 15 years and he’s excited he finally gets to read it.

Now he doesn’t. Very sad.

Was he better than Willie Stargell?
Never saw either of them
But they must have been dynamic together.
