The Dodgers were well on the way to this with prized top prospect Keibert Ruiz, but the Nationals pried him away to deal Trea Turner and Max Scherzer. Ruiz, away from the Dodgers for a few years, has been good for the Nationals, but not the big star everyone predicted.
However, even though Will Smith is L.A.'s top catcher for the next several years, there's no reason not to develop their current super-prospect to spell Smith and take on occasional gigs at 1B and LF. Right now he strikes out a lot, but everything he hits is just barreled, and he's already got the trust of the entire pitching staff, which is probably most important; just ask any Cardinals pitcher who threw to Yadi: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/645258 ... n-rushing/
