I thought holding him back a start was so he’d get a start against the Cubs. Tomorrow would be 4 days rest. What am I missing ?

Last time out against the Reds, Gray wilted in the heat. Barely got through 5 innings. Don’t want him pitching against the the Cubs in this heat.

He's not an ace. Sorry, aces don't take themselves out after 5 innings. And they don't get bumped to avoid a start vs your top rival because it's hot.

Gray hasn't pitched over 200 innings outside of his first 2 full seasons

He has only pitched more than 180 innings the last 9 years

He currently is on pace for about 178 innings this season

Sonny is a low rent ace at a large price, and please no to miles m on a 1 year contract

Whoa. We have a 35 year old who was coming off a #2 CY year when he signed. He’s pitched well for us. I don’t think he fooled the Cards into thinking he was something he wasn’t. Quityourbellyachin’.

3yrs/$75M is a pretty reasonable price actually, and he's had as good of health as you could possibly expect by the halfway point. You get the ace you pay for.

Has there been any official answer on why Gray isn’t going?

There’s a big difference in 1.5 games out and 3.5 games out. Cubs have Imanaga going. It would definitely be nice for the Cardinals to have their best pitcher on the mound.

Probably appendicitis. I hear it’s going around.

So who’s pitching for Cards? You go to Cards website and they’ve reformatted it….click on the game day and it links to buying tickets not starter info like before

Hope this doesn't come back to bite me in the a z z but starting Pallante could be the right move given his ground ball rate which (hopefully) could keep the scrubbies in the ball park.

He's also a lot younger than Gray and better suited to handle to 100 degree heat index.
